The Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on Friday, 17th May 2019 at the Academy Gymnasium. Officer Cadets of Intakes 87, 87B, 59(V), Lady 17 and Lady 16(V) contested for the championship of the Best Boxer in 13 weight categories for men and women; 52 kg fly weight, 56 kg bantam weight, 60 kg light weight, 64 kg light welter weight, 69 kg welter weight, 75 kg Middle weight, 81 kg light heavy weight and 91 kg heavy weight for the men and 48 kg light fly weight, 51 kg fly weight, 54 kg bantam weight, 57 kg feather weight and 60 kg light weight for the women.

The 120th Drill Instructor course at the Sri Lanka Military Academy commenced on 6th May 2019 and the Opening Address was made by the Commandant of the academy, Brigadier S K Eshwaran. There were 141 NCOs representing all regiments of the Army, who will follow a comprehensive drill instructor course during next three months. In delivering the opening address, the commandant welcomed all participants and wished them all the very best.

Nine officers of Intake 2 who were trained at the then ATC (current SLMA) visited Diyatalawa on 4th May 2019 in celebrating their 50th anniversary. Six of their wives also accompanied them.

The passing out parade of Drill Instructor Course no 119 was held on 27th April 2019 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. Brigadier S K Eshwaran USP psc Hdmc, the Commandant of the institute graced the occasion as the Chief Guest with all Wing Heads and a cross section of officers and other ranks from all Wings. 81 SNCOs and NCOs representing 20 regiments of the Army including four from the Sri Lanka Police and one from the Civil Security Department received Drill Instructor badges from the Chief Guest.

The flagship of motorsports in Sri Lanka, Fox Hill Supercross was held on 21st April 2019 at Diyatalawa Fox Hill circuit for the twenty-seventh consecutive year. The event was organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army Motorsports Committee and Sri Lanka Automobile Sports and Federation of Motorcycle Sports in Sri Lanka. Over 300 drivers and riders competed for the championships in sixteen car and motorcycle events. As such, the event attracted a large volume of motorsports enthusiasts from all over the country.

The musical show of Sri Lankan vocalist and lyricist, Athma Liyanage was held at the Auditorium of Sri Lanka Military Academy on 10th evening. The show was organized with the purpose of improving officer cadets’ management and organizing skills and the event was graced by the Commandant Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran, as the Chief Guest. This evening show, added a novel experience for the officers, officer cadets and their parents.

Commodore S M Hakim (ND) BSP ndc psc the Defence Adviser of Bangladesh High Commission paid a courtesy visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 8th April 2019. The visit was coordinated by the Defence Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission and the Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka.

In keeping with traditions of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, a ceremonial parade was accorded to the newly appointed Commanding Officer, Colonel R A D S Shantha Ranaweera RWP RSP USP psc of the Officer Cadet Wing on 5th April 2019. After inspecting the parade, he addressed the officers, other ranks and officer cadets.

The Media Briefing of “27th Fox Hill Supercross 2019”, the mega annual motor sport event in the country, was held at the Hilton Hotel Colombo on 05th April 2019. It was chaired by the Commandant Brigadier S K Eshwaran (The Chairman of Fox Hill Supercross 2019) while Retired Major Dilhan Jayawardane the President of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports , Mr Chamikara Pilapitiya the Vice President of Federation of Motorcycle Sports in Sri Lanka, Rizvi Farouk the Secretary of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports and a host of sponsors that included Hutchinson Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd (Prima Group), LOLC Insurance ,Browns Exide, Hilton Hotel Colombo, Northpole Engineering Pvt Ltd, Rainco Pvt Ltd, also participated in the event.
