203 undergraduates and 7 lecturers from the University of Wayamba called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 17th November 2018 for a two-day research based field workshop. Upon arrival, they paid tribute to the Cenotaph erected in memory of the fallen heroes.

Two Officers and 7 SNCOs of Bangladesh Army visited the Military Academy on 15th November 2018. Head of Training Team, Course Officer of Drill Instructor Course, Academy Sargent Major and Wing Sergeant Majors cordially welcomed them to the institute. They visited the Monument of Peace, Parade Square, Library and the SLMA Equestrian Section.

The officer cadets of Intake 85, 86, 86 B, 58(V), Lady 16 and Lady 15(V) participated in the “Ex Wanabambara”, the last and the longest of all exercises conducted by the SLMA from 18th October 2018 to 10th November 2018. This company level exercise, conducted in Walamandiya, Maduru Oya, is designed to test their ability in planning and conducting counterinsurgency operations in jungle and rural areas as platoon commanders.

Thirty-six officer cadets of Intake 60 and two officers from the Naval and Maritime Academy Trincomalee called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 17th October 2018 during a fourteen-day visit in Diyatalawa. Upon arrival they were warmly welcomed by the senior officer cadets of the Academy and were briefed regarding the Monument of Peace and Parade ground.

The Sri Lanka Military Academy felicitated the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake at a special ceremony hosted by the Commandant Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne and staff of the institute on 16th October 2018 on account of the 37th anniversary of Intake 16. The event was also attended by Madam Senanayake, a few retired officers of intake 16 with their wives, Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Commander SFHQ (Cen) and course officer, English and History instructors and course sergeant of the intake, SLMA staff and officer cadets.

The 69th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Col K H K Kottawattha, all Wing Heads, military and civilian staff and officer cadets on 10th October 2018.

The viva voce of officer cadet intake 85 and 86, in support of their extended essays, was held on 8th and 9th of October 2018 at the Academy. There were 86 candidates altogether including 25 young officers from intake 82, 83 and 84.

The Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on Saturday, 06th October 2018 at the Gymnasium. Officer Cadets from Intake 85, 86, 86B, Lady 16 and Lady 15(V) vied for the championship in 6 and 2 weight categories for men and women respectively; 56 kg bantam weight, 60 kg light weight, 64 kg light welter weight, 69 kg welter weight, 75 kg middle welter weight and 81 kg light heavy weight for men, and 51 kg fly weight, and 64 kg light welter weight for women. Altogether there were eight bouts and Cdt/Cpl N A S S Napagoda of Intake 85 won the title of the Best Boxer while O/Cdt T M N S Peris of Intake 86B was adjudged the Best Loser. Professional boxers of the Commando Regiment entertained the spectators in an exhibition bout.

The 119th Drill Instructor course conducted by the Sri Lanka Military Academy commenced on 8th January 2019 and the Opening Address was delivered by the Commandant, Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne RSP psc. There were eighty-four senior NCOs representing all regiments of the Army, including four NCO’s from Special Task Force and one from Civil Security Department who will follow a comprehensive drill instructor course for the next three months. In delivering the opening address, he welcomed all SNCOs and wished them all the very best.

Commodore S M Hakim, the Defence Advisor of Bangladesh High Commission, paid a visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 22nd September 2018. The Deputy Commandant extended a warm welcome to the visiting senior officer and took him around the camp. During the short stay, he visited the Cadets’ Mess and Marksmanship and Sniper Training School. The visiting Defence Advisor was presented with a memento to mark his visit to the Academy.
