The Drill Instructor Course had been initially started by the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the intention of producing qualified Drill Instructors to the army. Having conducted 94 courses consecutively, it was shifted to Combat Training School, Ampara.
From DI course no 111 onwards, the responsibility was once again entrusted to the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
