  • Commandant’s Official Maiden Visit to KDU

    Having assumed duties as the Commandant- SLMA, Major General I A N B Perera RWP USP ndu psc paid his maiden courtesy visit to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) upon Vice Chancellor’s call, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil (Ind) on 20 March 2023. The Commandant was warmly welcomed to the Kotelawala Defence University on his arrival and a casual interaction on training related matters of the both educational institutions was taken place at VC’s Office. At the end, mementoes in gratitude were exchanged between the Commandant and the Vice Chancellor while their heartiest views on the strong, prolonged relationship between the institutes were outspoken on this special occasion.

  • Enhancing the professionalism with the Drill Instructor Course

    In military perspectives, the life of a military man is perfected by DRILL through which self-explanatory qualities of the term, D- for Discipline, R – for Regimentation, I for Integrity, two Ls for Loyalty and Leadership are instilled within the soldier. Hence, the prominence of the Drill Instructor Course conducted by the SLMA holds a great altitude in Army’s professional military training.

  • CADET GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENT AWARDING CEREMONY OF THE FIRST HALF OF 2023

    The history of the Cadet Government Appointment Awarding Ceremony at the Sri Lanka Military Academy dates back to 1968 when Intake one embarked on its basic military training at the Army Training Center (ATC). The Cadet Government appointments were introduced with the aim of forming up a firm link between Officer Instructors, Other Rank Instructors and Officer Cadets, in the process of carrying out the responsibilities and assigned tasks to maintain high standards of discipline and leadership qualities within the young trainees.

  • AN INTRODUCTORY SESSION TO THE GAME OF GOLF

    As a concept of the Commandant-SLMA, an introductory session to the game of Golf was conducted for all Officers of the Academy at the Army Golf Club on 29th January in order to promote this elite game. At the outset, the Commandant explained the importance of the game to military personnel, the need for utilizing the available facilities for physical and moral development, the military fashion and culture. Afterwards, the Caddy Master of the Army Golf Club, Cpl Edirishighe A M conducted the initial session of the Golf course by stirring the origin of the game, establishment of the Golf Club at Diyatalawa and benefits of the game, followed by a training session at the Polo Ground. The preliminary session was attended by the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads, and all Officers.

  • VISIT OF MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED FLAG RANK OFFICERS (ARFRO)

  • VISIT OF KDU CADETS

    On 20 January 2023, a batch of KDU personnel consisting of 224 trainees and 27 directing staff called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy as a part of their training curriculum. Upon their arrival, they were welcomed at the main entrance of the Academy. Afterwards, they were given a briefing on the Parade Ground, Academy Vision and the War Memorial to which their utmost gratitude was paid by laying a wreath. Then, they watched the SLMA documentary at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium and visited a few important places of the Academy such as the Academy Museum, Equestrian Section, Polo Ground, Swimming Pool, Officer Cadets’ Mess, Library, Smart Classroom Complex, General Shavendra Silva Block and the Gymnasium where a friendly basketball match between the SLMA and KDU teams demonstrated their sportsmanship. Meanwhile, time and space for an interactive session between the trainees of both institutes were also created to share their experiences during the tea break and lunch at the Officer Cadets’ Mess.

  • THE COMMANDANT’S MAIDEN VISITS TO ALL WINGS OF THE SLMA

    From 11th January to 17th Jan 2023, the new Commandant, Brig Buddika Perera RWP USP ndu psc paid his initial visits to the four Wings governed by the Headquarters- SLMA. Firstly, to the Academic Wing on 11th Jan, to the Officer Cadet Wing on 12th Jan, to the Administrative Wing on 16th Jan and finally to the Military Training Wing on 17th Jan, having taken over his duties as the 36th Commandant- SLMA. During his visits, the Wing Heads of the respective Wings along with other officers warmly welcomed the Commandant and elaborated on the role & responsibilities of the particular Wing plus their upcoming plans for successful navigation of military training, academic component and other related activities of the Military Academy. After all these briefings, the Commandant emphasized on effective contribution and cooperation of all Wings despite functioning separately for administrative convenience to meet the common goals of the Military Academy. Meanwhile, the prominent places, installations and facilities under each Wing were also closely inspected during the Commandant’s visits.
