On 24 Feb 2024, a batch of 248 trainee Officer Cadets including 25 Other Ranks Instructors and 9 Officers from the KDU stationed at the Sri Lanka Military Academy as a destination of their annual Study Tour. On their stepping to the Military Academy, a warm welcome was extended at the main entrance by the Senior Officer Cadets of the Academy and at the inception, they were educated on the significance and hidden meaning of the sacred Parade Ground, War Memorial and the Mission Structure by a few trainee Cadets. Then, the Adjutant-Officer Cadets Wing formally welcomed all of these guests to the Military Academy while imparting a comprehensive knowledge on the role and responsibilities of the Military Academy along with a documentary video, played at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium. Then, the Cadets were taken to the Academy museum, located at Ella Camp to acquire some knowledge about the historical significance and great milestones of the SLMA. Meanwhile, an interactive session held at the Officer Cadets’ Mess allowed the trainees of both institutes to share their experiences collected through their military life, and also all got an opportunity to appear for a group photograph on the step of the Cadets’ Mess. Finally, a special lunch was hosted to these students at the Officer Cadets’ Mess by extending hospitality. In fact, the SLMA takes immense pleasure in accommodating these KDU students under her shade during their Study Tour for a short while.

On 22 February 2024, the Defence Attaché of the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Colonel Darren Woods paid a courtesy visit to the SLMA. First, he was warmly welcomed to the SLMA at the main entrance and along the way, the Defence Attaché was briefed on profound meaning of the sacred symbolic War Memorial and Parade Ground by a few Officer Cadets. Then, call on at the Commandant’s Office enabled the guest to share his views about the tour and training with the Commandant. Meanwhile, the guest had a casual discussion with the three UK Drill Instructors who are at present involved in an intensive Drill Instructor Course. During his short stay, Colonel Darren Woods made a visit to the Parade Ground to witness the ongoing Drill Instructor training. Also, he stepped into the Equestrian Section of the SLMA to see the present status of the Section. Finally, the Defence Attaché to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Colonel Darren Woods was cordially invited for a dinner with the Commandant at the Steps Bungalow before making his return-journey to Colombo.

On 8 February 2024, the SLMA had the honour of hosting a delegation from India comprising of Officer Students of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) from the College of Defence Management, along with their spouses, led by Commodore Sunil Kumar, Head of the Department of the Indian Naval Academy, as they were embarking on a five-day overseas study tour in Sri Lanka from 5 to 9 February.

With the aim of producing professionally qualified Drill Instructors to the Sri Lanka Army, the professional Drill Instructor Course No 131 with fifty-two SNCOs, representing most of the Regiments of the Sri Lanka Army began their training on 5 Feb 2024 with the formal Opening Address by the Commandant at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads, Officers and DI Course Instructors.

Mini Concert of the Intake Short Course 22 themed ‘English 360’ was held glamorously at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium on 3 Feb 2024 with the participation of the Commandant, Maj Gen Thusara Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads, Senior Officers and Officer Cadets. The aim of the concert was to showcase the Officer Cadets’ language knowledge and skills which were acquired through a one-month comprehensive English package conducted for eighteen Officer Cadets at the Volunteer Force Training School (VFTS), Diyatalawa.

The Oath Ceremony is a remarkable and customary moment of officer cadet life as they give the oath before the National Flag, Academy Flag and Company Flags after completing their initial military orientation package. The event also implies that trainees’ promise to abide by the Country’s constitution against any enemy threats, disasters while respecting the law and order of the country, SOPs, traditions, customs and practices of the Military Academy as well as the Army.

On 18 January 2024, Colonel AMDB Adhikari RWP RSP psc of Gajaba Regiment officially assumed his duties as the 38th Commanding of the Officer Cadet Wing with a Guard of Honour accorded by 15 Officers, 31 Non-Commissioned Officers and 63 Officer Cadets in order to welcome him to the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the deep perception of providing a fabulous service to his alma mater as one of the key appointment holders of the Academy. During his speech, the Commanding Officer made clear his vision and urged all the Academy personnel’s support in accomplishing his responsibilities as members of one family. After the parade, the new CO took over his duties amidst the blessings of his officers and other ranks, giving priority to his religious faith at the Officer Cadet Wing Headquarters.

A farewell ceremony for the outgoing Commanding Officer - Officer Cadet Wing, Colonel E W R S B Ehelepola USP USACGSC was held at the SLMA on 16 and 17 January 2023. On 16th evening, a farewell party for the outgoing Commanding Officer was held at the Officers’ Mess with the participation of all Wing Heads, Senior Officers and Officers of the Military Academy in compliance to his commendable service to the organization and a token of appreciation was also awarded.

On 8 January 2024, Intake 93B, SC 21, SC 22, and DE 1/2024, comprising of 236 local trainees and 3 Zambian Lady Officer Cadets, officially commenced their military training. The Commandant's Opening Address took place at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium, with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads, Officers, and Other Rank Instructors of the Academy.
