  • 98 TH COMMISSIONING CEREMONY AND RE-AWARDING OF PRESIDENT’S COLOURS AND ACADEMY COLOURS

    The 98th Commissioning Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, held on December 15 and 16, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in the Academy's history with the culmination of two significant events: a Passing Out Parade where 279 young Officers were commissioned into the Sri Lanka Army and a Colours Re-awarding Ceremony, held after a span of twenty-five years. These events were graced by the Head of the State, His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General (Retired) G D H Kamal Gunarathne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc Mphil, Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General H LVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Defence Attaches, Principal Staff Officers of the Army, Colonel Commandants and Colonels of the Regiments, and parents and well-wishers of passing out Officer Cadets.

    The term "Counter-Revolutionary Warfare" (CRW) refers to a set of strategies used by militaries all over the world to prepare their soldiers to fight in hostile geographies in extreme climates. The Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) extends this experience and exposure to its trainee officer cadets when they reach their final term with the Field Exercise Wanabambara, which is conducted in two phases: Special Forces Training School package and CRW package for twenty five days.

    Horse-riding, an enjoyable hobby and sport for people of all ages brings riders immense advantages in terms of physical and mental fitness. The Basic Equestrian Course conducted by the Equestrian Section of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) intends to train army personnel on horse-riding as the cavalry has come to play a prominent role in national and military ceremonies.

  • DIRECT ENLISTED COURSE NO I - 2023 BIDS ADIEU TO SLMA

    Having successfully completed their Military Orientation Package for a period of three and half months, five lady and five gentleman Probationary Officers of Direct Enlisted Course I - 2023, belonging to the professions of Medical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Civil Engineering had their Fall Out Ceremony at the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 21 November and 22 November 2023.

  • FINAL VIVA VOCE OF INTAKE 92

    On 20 November 2023, the Viva Voce for 74 Officer Cadets of the Intake 92 following the BSc Degree in Military Studies at the SLMA was held at Major Indika Walisundara Memorial Library and Colonel Fazely Laphir Auditorium of the SLMA with the participation of Academic Staff of the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rathmalana; Prof Kalpa Samarakoon, Dr Sanath de Silva (Senior Lecturer ll), Dr WSMAI Senevirathne (Senior Lecturer ll) and Mr Satheesh Mohan (Senior Lecturer ll). The Viva Voce of the Intake 92 was chaired by Colonel EWRSB Ehelepola USP USACGSC Commanding Officer - OCW, Lieutenant Colonel HT de Silva RWP RSP USP SLASR Head Of the Training Team- MTW, Lieutenant Colonel JMKP Wickramasinghe-HOD Languages Division - AW along with the other panel members, consisting of HODs, Lecturers of the Academic Wing and Supervising Officers of the SLMA in order to test their academic standards and presentation skills on the top of their extended essays required to complete as a prerequisite of their BSc Degree programme at the Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

  • FALL OUT CEREMONY OF 130TH DRILL INSTRUCTOR COURSE

    ‘DRILL’-Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Learning and Leadership improves cohesion, command unity and discipline within military personnel. Based on this stance, the Sri Lanka Military Academy conducts the Drill Instructor Course to produce professionally qualified Drill Instructors to the Sri Lanka Army.

  • VISIT OF IMA DELEGATION TO SLMA

    An Indian delegation consisting of two officers and three Officer Cadets visited the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyatalawa as a destination of their tour to Sri Lanka from 29 October to 04 November 2023.

  • VISIT TO INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY UNDER CADET EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

    As a concept of the two neighbouring armies of the region, a Cadet Exchange programme between the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) and Indian Military Academy (IMA) liaised by the Directorate of Training took place from 30 October to 04 November 2023, where three Officers, four Officer Cadets and a Senior Non-commissioned Officer visited IMA. In parallel to this visit, a series of activities were organized by the IMA. Firstly, all the Officer Cadets of the SLMA delegation joined Indian Officer Cadets with their PT sessions. Then, they witnessed an introductory presentation conducted by the Training team-IMA to give an overview on the military training provided by the IMA. Also, as a part of the tour, the delegation paid a visit to the Library and Museum of IMA, field exercise area of Exercise Sarpvinash aimed at imparting knowledge and experience on Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorist operations. Finally, the Deputy Commandant of IMA joined the Sri Lankan delegation with an interactive session at a special tea party. After a successful and memorable visit to IMA, the delegation returned to Sri Lanka on 05 November 2023.

  • VISIT OF SCC 9 TO THE SLMA

    The twenty nine student officers of the Senior Command Course 9 (SCC9) including six Directing Staff (DSs), Senior Instructor (SI), Chief Instructor (CI) and Deputy Commandant (Dy Comdt) from the Army War College, Buttala (AWC) destinated at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) on 27 October 2023 for an educational endeavour to acquire knowledge and experience on varied types of ‘DRILLS’ practiced in the Army as a part of their course curriculum conducted by AWC, Buttala.

  • BOXING MEET OF THE SLMA – 2023 TO EXHIBIT “POWER OF FISTS”

    Under the theme of “ Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,you can’t hit what your eyes don’t see” the Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on 21st October 2023 at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium with the participation of the officer cadet intakes 92, 92 B, SC 20 and 92 A contesting for the title of “The Best Boxer” under eleven weight categories
