Mini Concert of the Intake Short Course 22 themed ‘English 360’ was held glamorously at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium on 3 Feb 2024 with the participation of the Commandant, Maj Gen Thusara Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads, Senior Officers and Officer Cadets. The aim of the concert was to showcase the Officer Cadets’ language knowledge and skills which were acquired through a one-month comprehensive English package conducted for eighteen Officer Cadets at the Volunteer Force Training School (VFTS), Diyatalawa.

The Oath Ceremony is a remarkable and customary moment of officer cadet life as they give the oath before the National Flag, Academy Flag and Company Flags after completing their initial military orientation package. The event also implies that trainees’ promise to abide by the Country’s constitution against any enemy threats, disasters while respecting the law and order of the country, SOPs, traditions, customs and practices of the Military Academy as well as the Army.

On 18 January 2024, Colonel AMDB Adhikari RWP RSP psc of Gajaba Regiment officially assumed his duties as the 38th Commanding of the Officer Cadet Wing with a Guard of Honour accorded by 15 Officers, 31 Non-Commissioned Officers and 63 Officer Cadets in order to welcome him to the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the deep perception of providing a fabulous service to his alma mater as one of the key appointment holders of the Academy. During his speech, the Commanding Officer made clear his vision and urged all the Academy personnel’s support in accomplishing his responsibilities as members of one family. After the parade, the new CO took over his duties amidst the blessings of his officers and other ranks, giving priority to his religious faith at the Officer Cadet Wing Headquarters.

A farewell ceremony for the outgoing Commanding Officer - Officer Cadet Wing, Colonel E W R S B Ehelepola USP USACGSC was held at the SLMA on 16 and 17 January 2023. On 16th evening, a farewell party for the outgoing Commanding Officer was held at the Officers’ Mess with the participation of all Wing Heads, Senior Officers and Officers of the Military Academy in compliance to his commendable service to the organization and a token of appreciation was also awarded.

On 8 January 2024, Intake 93B, SC 21, SC 22, and DE 1/2024, comprising of 236 local trainees and 3 Zambian Lady Officer Cadets, officially commenced their military training. The Commandant's Opening Address took place at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium, with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads, Officers, and Other Rank Instructors of the Academy.

‘The Language Day’ is considered to be one of the major events of the Academy’s calendar that allows trainee officer cadets to showcase their dramatic performances, esthetic skills and multiple creativities on stage through a wide range of entertaining activities such as skits, dramas, songs, dances, analysis, recitation etc.

The Commandant and faculty of Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa took great pleasure in conducting an outward-bound training programme for third-year students of the department of Marketing Management, Faculty Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenapura , Sri Lanka from 18 – 22 of December 2023, on a request made by the University’s Marketing Management Department, which was a prerequisite of their course curriculum. The six-day course was meticulously planned and conducted by the Military Training Wing, and Major Priyadarshana Silva, the Senior Instructor together with a handful of competent officers took great interest in designing and conducting the course in such a way that the 81 undergraduates could hone their leadership and personality traits as per the expectation of the faculty. Additionally, the course included activities for fun and entertainment such as a hash-run, campfire, and an excursion to Upper Diyaluma which added lots of thrill and excitement to the programme. As a special event, the faculty and undergraduates paid tribute to the fallen war heroes at the Monument of Peace erected at the Academy.

The 98th Commissioning Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, held on December 15 and 16, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in the Academy's history with the culmination of two significant events: a Passing Out Parade where 279 young Officers were commissioned into the Sri Lanka Army and a Colours Re-awarding Ceremony, held after a span of twenty-five years. These events were graced by the Head of the State, His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General (Retired) G D H Kamal Gunarathne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc Mphil, Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General H LVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Defence Attaches, Principal Staff Officers of the Army, Colonel Commandants and Colonels of the Regiments, and parents and well-wishers of passing out Officer Cadets.

The term "Counter-Revolutionary Warfare" (CRW) refers to a set of strategies used by militaries all over the world to prepare their soldiers to fight in hostile geographies in extreme climates. The Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) extends this experience and exposure to its trainee officer cadets when they reach their final term with the Field Exercise Wanabambara, which is conducted in two phases: Special Forces Training School package and CRW package for twenty five days.

Horse-riding, an enjoyable hobby and sport for people of all ages brings riders immense advantages in terms of physical and mental fitness. The Basic Equestrian Course conducted by the Equestrian Section of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) intends to train army personnel on horse-riding as the cavalry has come to play a prominent role in national and military ceremonies.
