On 07 October 2023, Short Course 21 consisting of eighty five local trainees and one foreign lady officer cadet from Zambia commenced their fifteen month training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the Opening Address held at Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of the Commanding Officer - OCW, Colonel EWRSB Ehelepola USP USACGSC as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Commandant and all Wing Heads, Officers and Other Rank Instructors of the Academy.

The "Exercise Scorpion" is a major field training programme designed for penultimate-term trainee O/Cdts. Its primary aim is to equip them with theoretical knowledge of combat team-level military engagements in Internal Security (IS) Operations and provide practical exposure to the execution of such operations in collaboration with civil authorities. The exercise derives its name from the fictional insurgent group "Scorpion" which serves as a basis for simulating sabotage activities that disrupt law and order in a state, upon which military activities are predicated.

A delegation of fifteen members from the SLMA paid a visit to Mexico upon the invitation of the Government of Mexico in order to represent Sri Lanka in the 213th Independence Day Celebrations, 200th Anniversary Celebration of the Mexican Military Academy and other related activities. Nineteen delegations representing various countries such as Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, South Korea, Cuba, Russia, Nepal, Panama, Uruguay, Venezuela etc participated in the above events.
