On 07 October 2023, Short Course 21 consisting of eighty five local trainees and one foreign lady officer cadet from Zambia commenced their fifteen month training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the Opening Address held at Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of the Commanding Officer - OCW, Colonel EWRSB Ehelepola USP USACGSC as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Commandant and all Wing Heads, Officers and Other Rank Instructors of the Academy.
By addressing these young officer cadets at the threshold of strenuous training, the Commanding Officer first congratulated them on their achievement of being selected to be the members of the Sri Lanka Army and complemented their parents for allowing them to join an elite force of the country. During his speech, he emphasized the speciality of the intake such as introduction of a three month English package at the inception of their training at VFTS, Diyatalawa, attachment of foreign trainees to the intake, extension of their training by additional three months, need of maintaining high standards of discipline and leadership traits during their course of training to become competent confident platoon commanders of the Sri Lanka Army.
After the Commanding Officer’s speech, the Wing Heads educated the trainees on key role played by each Wing in steering their training and unfolded their upcoming military and academic curriculums for a successful competition of their basic military training at the SLMA.
