    In military perspectives, the life of a military man is perfected by DRILL through which self-explanatory qualities of the term, D- for Discipline, R – for Regimentation, I for Integrity, two Ls for Loyalty and Leadership are instilled within the soldier. Hence, the prominence of the Drill Instructor Course conducted by the SLMA holds a great altitude in Army’s professional military training.

    The glory of the Sri Lanka Military Academy always retains and remains unparallel incomparable when walking through her unique memory lanes. With the dawn of the independence in 1948, the Ceylon Army was formed on 10 Oct 1949 and Diyatalawa was chosen as the best geography for military training of the fledging Ceylon Army. Hence, the Army Recruit Training Depot was established and later it was named as the Army Training Center (ATC) in 1964. In ATC was awarded with the Colours in 1972 by His Excellency the President William Gopallawa. Subsequently, Her Excellency the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumarathunga awarded the President Colours on 21 June 1997. On 20 August 1992, the ACT was re-designated as the Sri Lanka Military Academy. As at today, it has undergone tremendous transformations in diverse spheres and it offers degree, high diploma and diploma in Military Studies in affiliation with the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU).

    Drill which sets the backbone of the Army is one of the first things that soldiers entering the military profession learn since the inception. It helps them develop pride, discipline and confidence in their commands and actions to reach military professionalism. The Drill Instructor Course of SLMA is designed with nine subjects to impart theoretical knowledge and practical exposure on Drill and to produce professionally qualified Drill Instructors to the Sri Lanka Army teaching them a variety of drill sessions on Weapons Drill, Foot Drill, Sword Drill, Colours Drill, Pace-stick Drill, Funeral Drill, Ceremonial Drill etc. The 127th Drill Instructor Course which began on 09.05.2022 with 129 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) including five lady instructors from 25 Regiments of the Sri Lanka Army culminated with the ‘Commandant’s Parade’ held at Parade Square of the Ella Camp on 13 August 2022.

    Excursions or field visits are always said to be a key way to develop learners’ intelligence, social and emotional quotients in exploring the real world beyond theoretical learning with the ignition of self-interest. The Study Tour organized to journey through former operational areas, regiments, Security Forces Headquarters, training academies of sister services for trainees are perhaps of a lifetime opportunity in their military career. Hence, the results of the outing are in fact of priceless experience which add a great value to officer cadet training and future military affairs. 137 Officer Cadets of Intake 91 including 2 x Foreign Officer Cadets from the Republic of Zambia and 1 x Officer Cadet from the Republic of Maldives undergoing training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, joined in their annual study tour programmed from 25 July 2022 to 29 July 2022.

  • THE MAIDEN VISIT OF THE 60TH CHIEF OF STAFF TO SLMA

    On 29 July 2022, Maj Gen TJ Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu paid a courtesy visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy after assuming his duties as the 60th Chief Of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. This senior officer is too a proud product of the Sri Lanka Military Academy who was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 26 October 1986 and underwent his basic military training as an Officer Cadet of the Intake 26. Further, his fortune blessed him with a rare chance to be selected for overseas training at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA). Upon successful completion of training, he became a commissioned officer and joined the oldest infantry regiment of the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment in 1987. During his thirty-five years of notable service, he made his utmost contribution to humanitarian operations and almost all non-humanitarian operations conducted throughout the protracted war of the country.

  • ACCESS ACCEPTED: NINE OTHER RANKS QUALIFIED IN BC

    The certificate awarding ceremony of the 2nd Basic Computer Course (BCC) conducted for nine Other Ranks from 04 July 2022 to 20 July 2022 in order to impart the basic knowledge in Information Technology within the military personnel of the Academy and to prepare them for their professional job as well as personal life in the technologically advanced world as a concept of the Commandant-SLMA was held at the Academy library on 23 July 2022 with the participation of the Director Academics- Academic Wing Col K M A P Karunaratne USP psc graced as the Chief Guest along with Heads of the Departments, Senior Officers and Officers. On this occasion, by addressing the gathering, the Director Academics underscored the importance of IT knowledge in the modern world for human existence, its application in diverse fields and need of continuous updating and practical usage in order to succeed in the organizational duties while the achievements of the course students having successfully completed the 14 days course was appreciated with award of certificates and valuable lecture assistance of the IT lecturers, Major YMMRB Pallewela SLAGSC and Captain WAMM Nishantha SLAGSC to the course was also complied at the certificate awarding ceremony by the Director Academics.

  • REFRESHING TRAINERS TO CONFRONT UPCOMING CHALLENGES

    Refresher programme is a training programme designed to equip employees with new skills, approaches and processes in achieving professional enhancements. The SLMA conducted a refresher programme for its staff when stepping into the second half of the year 2022. On 8 July 2022, the opening address of the Refresher Programme was held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of the Commandant, Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc who volunteered to conduct the initial session of the refresher programme on Motivation for Training for all ranks of the Academy.

  • CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS MANAGING THE ENERGY CRISIS

    Energy sources can be considered as a key element that controls the lives of humans in the ontemporary world. Transport, production processes and daily household activities largely rely on the availability of energy sources. The energy sources can be mainly divided into two categories as Non-Renewable Energy Sources like coal and fossil fuels and Renewable Energy Sources such as solar power, wind power, geo thermal energy and bio gas. At present the world has started to promote renewable energy sources due to the prevailing energy crisis. Thus, bio gas is promoted as an alternative energy source to address the issues of current deficit and high expenditure of LP gas. Bio gas is a renewable energy source that can be generated through controlled anaerobic digestion of organic waste.

Once human ideas, feelings, messages are blended with music, songs are born, which bring a deep meaning and experience to our lives. “Three Thal 2” was an indoor musical concert organized by the Academy band, “THE LEADS” with the participation of all intakes of the Academy.
