  • EMBRACED THE BRAND-NEW YEAR-2023 AT ITS ADVENT

    The Sri Lanka Military Academy stepped into the new year-2023 with its advent on 02 January 2023 with a charming ceremony which included the hoisting of National Flag by the Commandant, the Academy Flag by the Deputy Commandant , a two-minute silence observance in commemoration of gallant fallen war heroes, reading and swearing of the Public Service Affirmation, Commandant’s address and traditional tea party giving the prominence to the military tradition and Sinhalese culture. The event was graced by Brigadier IANB Perera RWP RSP ndu psc as the Chief Guest while the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier WSN Hemarathna RWP RSP psc, all Wing Heads, Officers, NCOs and civil servants of the Academy cheerfully attended the event. In fact, it was a cherishing moment for everyone as all members of the Academy dearly shared their blessings and wishes for a successful, prosperous and harmonious new year.

  • THE 36TH COMMANDANT OF SLMA ASSUMED DUTIES

    On 28th December 2022, Brigadier IANB Perera RWP RSP ndu psc of the Gajaba Regiment assumed duties as the 36th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy who was respectfully welcomed to the Academy with a traditional Guard Turnout. On the arrival, Brigadier Buddhika Perera paid his tributes to the fallen warriors by laying a flower wreath to the Monument. Then, a customary official parade commanded by the Head Of Training Team- MTW Lieutenant Colonel LP Athukorala RSP USP psc of the Special Forces with the participation of all ranks of the Academy commenced and the Chief Guest was honoured to inspect the parade and the other parade formalities.

  • RELINQUISHMENT OF THE 35TH COMMANDANT OF THE SLMA AMIDST SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS AND WELL-WISHES OF THE FAMILY

    Maj Gen Nalinda Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc who served as the 35th Commandant of the premier military training establishment from July 2021, relinquished the appointment on 26th December 2022 as he was appointed as the General Officer Commanding of 54 Infantry Division.

  • A TWO-DAY VIVA VOCE SESSION TO DEMONSTRATE ACADEMIC PROFICIENCY OF INTAKE 91

    The Sri Lanka Military Academy conducts Viva Voce for the undergraduates of the B Sc in Military Studies in collaboration with Sir John Kotelawala University, Rathmalana to test the standards of their extended essays which they are expected to submit as a partial fulfillment of their degree at their final term. On 14th and 15th ,128 officer cadets of Intake 91 faced their Viva Voce before four panels which consisted of Lecturers from KDU and Senior Officers, Officers of SLMA. Representing KDU, Lt Col L R Amarasekara SLA, Dr Sanath de Silva, Dr Kalpa W Samarakoon and Mr Satheesh Mohan (Senior Lecturer) participated in the Viva Voce while Colonel E W R S B Ehelepola USP USACGSC - Commanding Officer (OCW), Colonel KMAP Karunaratne USP psc- Director Academics (AW), Colonel BNSB Rangama RSP USP psc-Chief Instructor (MTW) and Lt Col J M K P Wickramasinghe-HOD Languages (AW) chaired the panels held at Academy Library and Col Fazly Laphir Memorial Auditorium. This sets an infrequent opportunity for the final term officer cadets to showcase their academic prospects at the oral presentations and to reflect how mastery they are in academic writing as well.

  • ANNUAL BOXING MEET TO ATTEST POWER OF FISTS AND SELF -DISCIPLINE OF OFFICER CADETS

    The Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy is a much awaited and special event of many officer cadets as they look forward to finding the Officer Cadet with power, strength and stamina to claim the title of ‘Best Boxer’. The Annual Boxing Meet of the year 2022 as per the Academy almanac was held on 25th November 2022 at the Academy Gymnasium with the participation of Officer Cadets of Intake 91, 91B, SC 19, Lady 19, 61 (V), 61 A (V), Lady 18 (V), SC 19 Alpha, 61 (V) Alpha and Lady 18 (V) Alpha who contested in competitive spirit for the Championship of the “Best Boxer” by taking part in 8 weight categories for both men and women; 48kg -Minimum weight (men), 57kg - Feather weight (women), 51kg - Fly weight (men), 54kg Bantam weight(men), 66kg - Welter weight (women), 63.5 kg - Light welter weight(men), 67kg - Welter weight (men) and 71kg - Light middle weight (men).

  • YOUTHS’ COMBAT SKILLS EMANATED THROUGH INTER COMPANY COMBAT FIRING MEET-2022

    The Inter Company Combat Firing Meet which was organized with the aim of testing leadership skills of officer cadets, skills in clearing obstacles, section level fire and maneuver, and effective engagement of targets in a battle environment was held at the Field Firing Range (FFR) of Fox Hill from 19 th to 21st November 2022. The officer cadet intake of 91, 91 B, Short Course 19, Lady 19, 61 (V), 61 A (V), Lady 18 (V), 92, 92 Alpha, SC 19 Alpha, 61 (V) Alpha and Lady 18 (V) Alpha representing four Companies of the Academy competed for the Trophy of Champion Company. The biggest challenges for the competitors are the clearing of Battle Obstacles, two-kilometer run, concentration on targets and tactical maneuver.

  • INTERVIEW WITH THE COMMANDER OF THE ARMY TO EXPLORE HIS EXPERTISE

    On 10 November 2022, a cross section of the passing out officer cadets from Intake 91, 91B, SC 19,Lady 19, 61 (V), Lady 18 (V) and 61A (V) including three foreign officer cadets from the Maldives and Zambia got an opportunity to interview the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu at the Army Headquarters in pursue of collecting firsthand data for an ongoing research on Russian and Ukraine Conflict, which will be pinnacled on the day prior to the Commissioning Parade in December 2022 as the Officer Cadets’ final research presentation. The interactive session with the Commander provided the research team with deep insights to view the ongoing conflict in broader perspectives. The Commandant of Sri Lanka Military Academy Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Chief Instructor, Senior Officers and a few other officers of the military academy also were present on that occasion in guiding them through the process of researching to explore the subject.

  • The British Defense Advisor’s Visit to the Heart of Uva

    The Sri Lanka Military Academy has apparently become an iconic destination for most of the local and foreign distinguished personalities to visit and make their stay at the country very reminiscing. The British Defense Advisor, Colonel PJ Clayton MBE paid an official visit to the SLMA on 13 Oct 2022 as a part of his foreign tour. At the arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Commandant Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc along with Deputy Commandant and other senior officers of the military academy. At the main entrance, the trainee officer cadets briefed the honoured Guest the significance of the Monument of Peace and the Defence Advisor customarily laid a wreath before the Monument of Peace in honour of the fallen heroes. Afterwards, he posed for a group photograph with the senior officers of the Academy at the entrance of the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium where a charming interactive session with members of the Academy was joined in share of some tea all together. Afterwards, his thoughts on the visit were versed on the pages of the legendary Visitors’ Book and sharing of mementos were also taken place before his departure from the Academy.

  • Facilitation of International Children’s Day-2022

    The International Children’s Day-2022 under the theme of “Better Future for Every Child” was held on 1 Oct 2022. With the intension of giving the deserved importance to children, the Sri Lanka Military Academy organized and celebrated the international Children’s Day, at the academy premises with participation of school children in Bandarawela Education Division.
