PARENTS’ DAY OF INTAKE 92B AND SC 20 : AN ASTONISHING EXPERIENCE TO NEAR AND DEAR ONES

‘Parents' Day’ is one of the special events held at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) to showcase the multidisciplinary skills of trainee Officer Cadets before their beloved parents, near and dear ones. On 5th August 2023, the Parents' Day of Intake 92 B and SC 20 was held at SLMA with the participation of the Commandant-SLMA, Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest. The Parents’ Day programme was designed with a Taekwondo and PT Display at the Gymnasium, an Equestrian Display, a Demonstration of an Attack on an Insurgent Hideout at the Polo Ground, Commandant’s Address and an entertainment session at the Officer Cadets' Mess.

Taekwondo and PT Display was the first event of the Parents’ Day Programme through which the Officer Cadets demonstrated their physical fitness, synchronization and dexterity gained through military training in a variety of exercises such as Taekwondo, Horse Jumping, Fire Ring Jumps and Human Pyramid at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium.

The second event of the Parents’ Day included a Show Jumping Display conducted by the Equestrian Section of SLMA at the Polo Ground premises, a Band Display by the Sri Lanka Army Band and a demonstration of an Attack on an Insurgent Hideout performed by the Officer Cadets of the participant Intakes to exhibit their skills in operational planning, tactical execution and successful accomplishment of a mission.

As the third event of the Parents’ Day programme, the Commandant’s address was held at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of parents and officers of the Academy. During which, a special note of appreciation and gratitude was offered to the beloved parents for sending their children for military service.

Afterwards, a special lunch and an entertainment session were held at the Officer Cadets' Mess, where the parents had an opportunity to interact with their beloved sons and daughters as well as with their Officer Instructors and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
