The Sri Lanka Military Academy celebrated its 31st Academy Day Anniversary in a unique military fashion from 16th to 20th August 2023. The event encompassed various meaningful activities under the guidance of Commandant Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc.
The Academy Day Celebrations began with a shramadhana campaign involving Officer Cadets and NCOs on August 16th at Louis Marie Children's Home in Beragala. Subsequently, an entertaining program and special lunch were held for the children on 17th August with the Commandant and other dignitaries in attendance.
On 18th August an overnight pirith chanting ceremony took place on the rooftop of the Academy Headquarters Complex. This ceremony, attended by the Commandant, Wing Heads, Officers, Other Ranks, and Officer Cadets, brought blessings to the Academy's Colors, staff, trainees, and fallen heroes.
Religious blessings from various faiths were invoked on 19th August followed by an alms-giving for Buddhist Theros and the day culminated in a commemorative parade at the Academy War Memorial, where flower wreaths were laid in tribute to fallen heroes.
The morning of 20th August featured a ceremonial parade, with the Commandant as Chief Guest. An "Iron Wood" sapling was planted during this event as a symbolic gesture.
The festivities concluded with a traditional all-ranks lunch organized by the Administration Wing at the "Torch Cinema," bringing the meaningful celebrations of the 31st Academy Day Anniversary to an end.
