  • “Shoot Through the Hoop”- A SPIRITED ENCOUNTER FOR THE INTER-COMPANY BASKETBALL SHIELD

    The game of basketball which began in 1891 grew as a very popular sport in the world due to its support for healthy life; improvement of motor coordination, flexibility, and endurance. Today, the game plays a key role in enhancing physical fitness of military personnel and the Military Academy conducts annually the Inter-company Basketball Competition for young trainees to show off their competitive spirit and energy representing their companies. The Competition for the year 2021 was held at the Academy Gymnasium on 04th April with the participation of all officer cadets under training. After head-to-head battles among the four companies to claim the championship, Balana Company marked its triumphant victory under its Company Flag. Officer Cadet H N K Caldera and Lady Officer Cadet T D S Rashmika of Intake 89B emerged as the outstanding players whose performances were appreciated with the award of Best Player Trophies at the Inter-company Basketball Competition. The Vijithapura Company and Randeniwela Company were adjudged the runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

  • VISIT OF Student Officers of Senior Command Course and Junior Staff Course of Officer Career Development Centre.

    A delegation of 92 Student Officers of SCC and JSC along with the Commandant, Chief Instructor and Senior Officers and Directing Staff of OCDC visited the Military Academy on 03 April 2021. The Delegation was warmly welcomed by the Commandant Major General A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc and all wing heads of Sri Lanka Military Academy. The delegation was made aware of the role and tasks of the Academy, historical evolution, officer cadet training, course curriculums, sophisticated facilities available at the Academy for officer cadet training and education, the new developments etc.

Visit to the Military Academy at the venture of new posting is a military tradition practiced by Commanders of Diyatalawa Garrison city in order to further strengthen the cordial relationships.

    The Security Forces Headquarters (Cen) is the regional command of the Sri Lanka Army, with the responsibility of operational deployment and command of all Army units located in the Central and Southern parts of the country. The newly posted Security Force Commander, Major General N R Lamahewage RWP RSP ndu made his official visit to Sri Lanka Military Academy on 05th March upon the invitation of the Commandant, SLMA, Major General A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc.

  • WORKSHOP ON HEALTHY & NUTRITIOUS FOOD

    Sri Lanka among other countries has inherited unique cuisines which sustain the nutritional characteristics of food with indispensable local spices. The culinary consultant Deshabandu Dr. Themmadurage Pabilis Silva, the Chief Chef of the Mount Lavinia Hotel who ventured to take the Sri Lankan Sinhala dishes to the international arena, conducted a two-day workshop from 01st to 02nd March. The programme aimed at improving the culinary skills of all cooks serving at SLMA and neighbouring military establishments.

  • AIR FORCE COMMANDER`S VISIT TO SRI LANKA MILITARY ACADEMY

    The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal S K Pathirana WWV and Bar, RWP and Bar, RSP and three Bars, VSV, USP, MSc (MOA) USA, MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, M Phil (Ind), MIM(SL), ndc (Ind), psc, made his first visit to the Military Academy, Diyatalawa on Saturday (27 Feb) with his family members. The Air Force Commander and the visitors were cordially hosted by the Commandant-SLMA along with Deputy Commandant and other senior officers. At the inception, the Commander offered floral tribute to the fallen warriors at the Monument of Peace. During the visit, the delegation was made aware of the role and tasks of the Academy, historical evolution, officer cadet training, course curriculums, sophisticated facilities available at the Academy for officer cadet training and education, the new developments etc. The walk through the Smart Classroom Complex donated by the Intake XVI, Language Lab installed for linguistic enhancement of the trainees, the new Headquarter Complex gifted by the People's Republic of China and visit to the Cadets’ Mess added splendid memories to their tour.

  • WORKSHOP ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

    A two-day workshop on Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) was conducted by the Directorate of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law in conjunction with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium on 23 & 24 February 2021 with the participation of members of the faculty and trainee officer cadets. Brigadier K H K Kottewatta RWP RSP USP, the Director HR/HL together with Brigadier (Retd) Jacques Lemay- the Regional Armed & Security Forces Delegate of ICRC, Mr Channa Jayawardena and Ms Claudia conducted the two-day workshop which widened and bridged the knowledge gap on HR and IHL of both trainers and trainees by sharing their expertise and experiences in diversified areas such as International Humanitarian Law & its Historical Evolution, International Law System, Introduction to IHL & IHL Universal Code, Basic Terminology and Definitions, Means & Methods of Warfare, Targeting in Armed Conflict/ROE, Introduction to IHRL & IHL vs IHRL, IHRL Basic Principles, Law Enforcement Powers, IHL & Peace Keeping Operations, IHL in Post Conflict, Command Responsibility etc.
