Refresher programmes are considered as training programmes which are designed with the purpose of acquainting employees of an organization with new skills, methods and processes required to improve their performance on the job. The SLMA conducted a refresher programme for its staff as they step into the new term at the advent of the new year. Its opening ceremony was held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium on 06 January 2022 with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier WSN Hemarathna RWP RSP psc as the Chief Guest.

The Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (SLACAL) which was initiated as a concept of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil on 07 January 2021 in order to pioneer the Government’s effort with island wide agriculture and livestock projects was empowered with six young officers including two lady officers ( Intake 89, 90 and Volunteer Lady Intake 17) who received their commission at the 96th Commissioning Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 19th December 2021. This will be written in the annals of the military academy history as the first set of officers who are originally posted to this newly established regiment of the Sri Lanka Army.

The commissioning parade marks the culmination of cadetship, and the beginning of a magnificent and challenging military career as newly Commissioned Officers of the Sri Lanka Army. The commissioning ceremony included four fabulous events, namely the Final Presentation, Commissioning Parade itself, Pipping Ceremony and the Commissioning Dinner.

Customarily, the Sri Lanka Military Academy conducts the Commandant’s Presentation and Parade two days prior to the Final Presentation and Commissioning Parade of passing out intakes. This practice helps, in fact, to extend timely guidance, encouragements and compliance for onward progression of the upcoming POP related events. On 15th eve, the Commandant of the Military Academy graced the Research Presentation conducted by the passing out officer cadets at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium. The following day marked the Commandant’s parade which claimed the intensity and splendor of the Commissioning Parade.

The annual Awards Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Military Academy is one of the most fabulous and customary events which is organized with the aim of recognizing and appreciating the excellent achievements of trainee officer cadets in multi-disciplinary aspects during the year. The Awards Ceremony held subsequent to the Commandant’s Parade becomes one of the ever memorable and iconic events in officer cadets’ life where their outstanding performance during the year receives the due recognition in public with the award of certificates, trophies and medals by the Commandant and Wing Heads of the Academy.

Donation, a selfless act, teaches the importance of generosity. People living in poverty and desperate living conditions need a helping hand for growth. Mrs Nethmini Gunasekara and Mr. Lahiru Dissanyaka, two Sri Lankans domiciled in Australia patronaged to construct a new house for Mr. S Sangarguru’s family living at Heennarangolla, Boralanda under the supervision and labour force of the Military Academy. Necessary financial and other resources for this charity work were coordinated and pioneered by Brigadier Anil Peiris RSP USP psc during his tenure at the Military Academy as the Deputy Commandant.
