Sports competitions are held all over the world to enhance teamwork, cooperation and coordination among sports personnel. Learning these skills helps the participants in their life and professional careers. The Sri Lanka Military Academy conducts the inter company sports meet annually in order to test the sportsmanship, leadership skills of trainee Officer Cadets and their capabilities in organizing competitions. The Opening Ceremony of the Inter Company Sports Meet - 2021 was held on 24 September at the Polo Ground which was graced by the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigadier WWHRRVDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest. Competitors of Intake 89, 90, 89B, Lady 17 (V), 60(V) and 91 representing their respective Companies took part enthusiastically in field and track events to make their Company to the Champion Company of the Inter Company Sports Meet - 2021.

Debate is an excellent activity in academic learning and linguistic enhancement as it engages students in a variety of cognitive and linguistic ways. In order to provide meaningful listening and speaking experience to trainee Officer Cadets at SLMA and to develop argumentative skills within them, the English Department of the SLMA conducted the Inter-intake Debate Competition-2021 with the participation of all the intakes of the Academy.

The “Exercise Scorpion” is one of the major exercises conducted for final term officer cadets with the aim of teaching them the internal security component of the COIN package. In the exercise the cadets underwent the practical aspects of counterinsurgency situations in urban areas such as establishing and maintaining an ops room, manning of VP’s and KP’s, conducting roadblocks, CIMIC activities, cordon and search operations, crowd dispersal etc.

08 September of every year is a meritorious day for the Military Academy as it offers alms to Sanasuma Vadihiti Niwasa located at Ammunudowa. With the situation of the country,the Academy offered essential dry ration packs to the elders’ home where twelve elderly persons are taking refuge. Capt H M R Samaraweera USP of Admin Wing initiated the charity work on behalf of the Commandant and staff of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.

The Cadet Government Appointment Awarding Ceremony is a customary event at the Sri Lanka Military Academy and the history of the Cadet Government dates back to 1968 with the embarking of Intake 1 for military training at the Army Training Center under the guidance of late General Deshamanya JED Perera VSV D.Litt (Honoris Causa) FIBM FIMgt (SL) ndc psc, a proud graduate of Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

The Oath Ceremony is a significant traditional event at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa which marks the successful completion of military orientation training by fresh trainees who give oaths before the National Flag (the Nation), Academy Flag (Alma Mater) and Company Flags (Membership). From this time onwards, these trainees abide by the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka against enemy threats, disasters while living up to the law and order of the country, SOPs, traditions, customs and practices of the Sri Lanka Military Academy and the Army.

The DE 1/2021 Officer Cadets having successfully completed their Basic Intensive Military Training for five months received the graduation certificates from the Commandant, Brigadier WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc on 21 August 2021. The intake consisted of 16 professionals in Medical, Civil Engineering, Accounting, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Architecture.

The 125th Drill Instructor Course consisting of 139 Non-Commissioned Officers began to sail its journey of a comprehensive and intensive drill instructor course for four months. The course curriculum has been designed to produce knowledgeable, disciplined and skillful drill instructors to the Sri Lanka Army .
