  • THE FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE COMMANDER - SF HQ (CEN) TO HIS ALMA MATER

    The Security Forces Headquarters (Cen) is the regional command of the Sri Lanka Army, with the responsibility of operational deployment and command of all Army units located in the Central and Southern parts of the country. The newly posted Security Force Commander, Major General N R Lamahewage RWP RSP ndu made his official visit to Sri Lanka Military Academy on 05th March upon the invitation of the Commandant, SLMA, Major General A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc.

  • WORKSHOP ON HEALTHY & NUTRITIOUS FOOD

    Sri Lanka among other countries has inherited unique cuisines which sustain the nutritional characteristics of food with indispensable local spices. The culinary consultant Deshabandu Dr. Themmadurage Pabilis Silva, the Chief Chef of the Mount Lavinia Hotel who ventured to take the Sri Lankan Sinhala dishes to the international arena, conducted a two-day workshop from 01st to 02nd March. The programme aimed at improving the culinary skills of all cooks serving at SLMA and neighbouring military establishments.

  • AIR FORCE COMMANDER`S VISIT TO SRI LANKA MILITARY ACADEMY

    The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal S K Pathirana WWV and Bar, RWP and Bar, RSP and three Bars, VSV, USP, MSc (MOA) USA, MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, M Phil (Ind), MIM(SL), ndc (Ind), psc, made his first visit to the Military Academy, Diyatalawa on Saturday (27 Feb) with his family members. The Air Force Commander and the visitors were cordially hosted by the Commandant-SLMA along with Deputy Commandant and other senior officers. At the inception, the Commander offered floral tribute to the fallen warriors at the Monument of Peace. During the visit, the delegation was made aware of the role and tasks of the Academy, historical evolution, officer cadet training, course curriculums, sophisticated facilities available at the Academy for officer cadet training and education, the new developments etc. The walk through the Smart Classroom Complex donated by the Intake XVI, Language Lab installed for linguistic enhancement of the trainees, the new Headquarter Complex gifted by the People's Republic of China and visit to the Cadets’ Mess added splendid memories to their tour.

  • WORKSHOP ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

    A two-day workshop on Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) was conducted by the Directorate of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law in conjunction with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium on 23 & 24 February 2021 with the participation of members of the faculty and trainee officer cadets. Brigadier K H K Kottewatta RWP RSP USP, the Director HR/HL together with Brigadier (Retd) Jacques Lemay- the Regional Armed & Security Forces Delegate of ICRC, Mr Channa Jayawardena and Ms Claudia conducted the two-day workshop which widened and bridged the knowledge gap on HR and IHL of both trainers and trainees by sharing their expertise and experiences in diversified areas such as International Humanitarian Law & its Historical Evolution, International Law System, Introduction to IHL & IHL Universal Code, Basic Terminology and Definitions, Means & Methods of Warfare, Targeting in Armed Conflict/ROE, Introduction to IHRL & IHL vs IHRL, IHRL Basic Principles, Law Enforcement Powers, IHL & Peace Keeping Operations, IHL in Post Conflict, Command Responsibility etc.

  • General Convocation of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University 2020

    The final and the seventh session of the General Convocation of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was ceremonially conducted at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 16th February 2021 with the gracious presence of the Chief Guest His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and all service commanders.

  • KDU 89 B, INTAKE 60 (V) AND LADY 17 (V) AFFIRMED THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO SLMA AND THE COUNTRY

    The Oath Ceremony of the Military Academy, Diyatalawa is a traditional practice performed at successful completion of military orientation training by junior Officer Cadets in front of the National Flag, Academy Flag and Company Flags. From this time onwards, these trainees are bonded to support and defend the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka against all enemies while obeying the orders of the President of the country and the orders, traditions, customs and practices of the Sri Lanka Army. On 12th February 2021, 231 trainees from KDU 89 B, Intake 60 (V) and Lady Intake 17 (V) read their Oath of Loyalty and Devotion to the SLMA and the country at the Academy Gymnasium. This customary occasion was graced by the Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing along with Company Commanders and Course Officers.

  • SLMA BLESSED WITH A TWO-STAR GENERAL

    On the destined day of 04th February 2021, a record number of Army Officers got their promotions, making the 73rd Independence Day ever-memorable and cherishing. On that day, fourteen senior Brigadiers were promoted to the rank of Major General by the His Excellency President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, WWV, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psc. The rank of Major General, a two-star general in the Army is the pinnacle achieved by professional and outstanding army officers.

  • A THREE-DAY NETBALL TRAINING WORKSHOP AT SLMA

    With the intention of promoting passion towards Netball among trainees of Military Academy, Diyatalawa, a three-day workshop from 04th to 06th February was held at Academy Gymnasium under supervision and coaching of Mrs Sanjeevani Wanasinghe Peiris, ABF (SL), MBA (UK). Representing Sri Lanka in international tournaments in varied countries like New Zealand , Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, her team was able to gain a lot of victories for the country; 9th World Championship in England (1992), Asian Netball Championship in Singapore (1997), Tri Nation Netball Championship in Sri Lanka (1997) and so on. As an energetic figure, she has serviced development of country’s Netball by holding significant positions such as General Secretary of Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (between 2015 & 2016), Member of the National Netball Selection Board (2010 & 2018), Team Manager of Asian Championship Sri Lanka Youth Netball team in Hong Kong (2015), Team Manager of Mercantile Netball Team Invitation Netball Series in Brunei (2015),Team Manager of Mercantile Netball Team National Champions (2014), Hon. Secretary of Mercantile Netball Association (from 2014). The workshop aims at improving their hand-eye coordination, teamwork, flexibility, reaction time and stamina. Lady Cadets of Intake 89B and 17 (V) along with Other Rank instructors and Lady Officers took part in the sessions. The workshop brought them many learning opportunities and it would make them to fall in love with the sport in time to come.

  • 73RD INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT SLMA

    The 4th February is a very significant day for all Sri Lankans due to Independence Day celebrations. Country’s independence from British rule in 1948 is celebrated all over the country through varied activities such as flag-hoisting ceremonies, military parades, tree planting campaigns etc.

  • A WORKSHOP ON FOOD SECURITY AND HYGIENE FOR WAITERS AND COOKS OF SLMA

    Food hygiene and safe food handling practices are vital components in food science matrix. Food hygiene training teaches how to properly organize and store food, to maintain the quality of food, to minimise wastage and to save the time and money. So, food handlers require to possess a sound understanding on these aspects in order to provide a quality service to the organization. An effective way to communicate all these is through conduct of food hygiene training sessions to equip the staff with proper handling, storage and cleaning techniques.
