The Lady Intake 16 consisting of 21 Lady Officer Cadets and Direct Enlisted batch 1/2018 consisting of 21 Officer Cadets read their Oath of allegiance to the SLMA and the country on 16th March 2018 at the Academy gymnasium. This customary occasion was graced by the Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing along with Company Commanders and Course Officers.

A military delegation comprising of four senior officers: a brigadier, a lieutenant colonel, a major and a lieutenant commander from the Inter Services Selection Board of the Bangladesh military visited the SLMA on 07th March 2018. They are on a tour visiting all military academies in the country to study and exchange expertise on selection of candidates for officer cadet training.

Twenty-eight officer cadets, two officers and six other rank instructors from the Naval and Maritime Academy Trincomalee visited the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 7th March 2018. After a warm welcome upon their arrival, they first laid a wreath at the “Monument of Peace” to pay homage to the fallen war heroes.

Colonel K V N P Premaratne RSP USP psc SLA took over duties as the Chief Instructor of the Military Training Wing at auspicious time on 26th February 2018 by giving the priority to religious rituals. Prior to the new appointment, he performed duties as the Commanding Officer of the 16th Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment.

The opening address for Direct Enlisted Intake I/2018 was conducted by the Commandant Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne RSP psc on 15th February 2018 at the Academy Auditorium. The twenty-one professionals belong to engineering, medical, band, agriculture, veterinary and IT fields.

Colonel K H K Kottawattha RWP RSP USP of Gamunu Watch took over duties as the new Deputy Commandant of SLMA on 14th February 2018. He commenced duties in the new appointment by giving priority to religious observances.

In keeping with the tradition, a ceremonial parade was accorded to the newly appointed Commanding Officer, Colonel Ajith P Wickramasekara USP psc of the Officer Cadet Wing on 14th February 2018. After inspecting the parade, he addressed the officers, other ranks and officer cadets.

“Ex Frozen Trout”, one of the major field exercises in the cadet curriculum was conducted at Ambewela area. The area for this exercise was especially chosen to train cadets in making decisions and perform under extreme weather conditions. The exercise was on conventional warfare tactics designed to train cadets on the four phases of war; advance, attack, defence and withdrawal.

Colonel A P Wickramasekara USP psc of Sri Lanka Signal Corps took over duties as the new Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing (OCW) on 05th February 2018. A guard turnout was accorded by the Wing to welcome him and afterwards he paid tribute to the Monument of Peace, a special war memorial erected at SLMA premises to remember the fallen war heroes who were trained at this institute and laid down their lives for the country. Auspiciously and in keeping with religious lines, he commenced duties in the new appointment amidst chanting of pirith by a Buddhist monk.

Colonel Nalinda Niyangoda RWP RSP USP psc of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps bid farewell to the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 2nd January 2018 after serving the prestigious military training institute for just over a year.
