Seven officers of Intake 3 including Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, who were trained at the then ATC visited the SLMA with their spouses on 05th February 2020 marking the 50th anniversary.

One hundred and twenty five teacher training students visited Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 31st January 2020. They were warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer- OCW, Col KVNP Premarathne RSP USP psc and other officers at the Academy ‘A’ gate. Upon their arrival, they paid their tribute to ‘Monument of Peace’ located at the academy main entrance and they sighted the sacred parade ground on the opposite side. Afterwards, they were educated on the role and tasks of the military academy through a very comprehensive academy presentation conducted at Sino Lanka Auditorium. The delegation was hosted in hospitality and a tea party for them was arranged at the Officer Cadets’ Mess for their refreshment.

on 28th January, a new bus halt which was established by Academy soldiers under the close supervision of Garrison Engineer of ESR was gifted to general public of Haputale in gratitude of their generous contribution to the mega motor racing event of the country, Fox Hill Supercross. The opening ceremony was begun by lightening the traditional oil lamp by the Commandant of the Military Academy, Diyatalawa as the Chief Guest. The occasion was attended by the Dy Commandant, all Wing Heads and other officers of the academy.

Three weapon training simulators were established in the Ella camp of the SLMA for the purpose of giving actual field firing experience in a domesticated setting. This training facility was installed by the Directorate of IT in the Army as per a concept of the Commander of the Army. This will enable the officer cadets to gain a novel experience of firing small arms; firing from 25-100M ranges, rapid firing, moving targets, virtual enemy targets, with day and night firing capability, zeroing of small arms in a safe environment. The opening ceremony took place on 25th January which was attended by the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran, the Dy Commandant, Wing Heads, senior officers and officers of the Academy.

Forty–five officer cadets from the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 22nd January 2020 along with nine officers as a part of their annual visit to sister service military establishments. Upon arrival they were warmly welcomed by the senior officer cadets of the Academy and briefed about the “Monument of Peace” and Parade ground.

The 122nd Drill Instructor Course commenced on 06th January 2020 and the Opening Address was delivered by the Commandant of the Academy, Brigadier S K Eshwaran at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium. 148 NCOs representing various Regiments of the Army attended the opening ceremony and they will follow the comprehensive Drill Instructor course for the next three months.

The Commissioning Dinner was held on 21st evening at the Officer Cadets’ Mess. This ceremony is traditionally hosted by the Commandant and staff of the Sri Lanka Military Academy to welcome the newly commissioned officers to the officer corps of the Sri Lanka Army. It was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence as the Chief Guest, Commander of the Army, all Principal Staff Officers, Colonel Commandants, Colonels of the Regiments, Defence Attache of Zambia and SLMA Staff.

Traditional Pipping Ceremony was ceremonially conducted at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium and it was attended by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commandant and all officers of SLMA and parents and well-wishers of newly-commissioned officers.

The 94th Commissioning Parade of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa was ceremonially held on 21st December 2019 at the Academy parade ground with the participation of the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the Chief Guest, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, retired Major General G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc and the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc. The ceremony was also graced by the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, all Principal Staff Officers, Colonel Commandants, Colonels of the Regiments, Zambian Defence Attache, a large number of distinguished invitees, parents and well-wishers of passing out officer cadets. Upon arrival, the Chief Guest paid floral tribute to the fallen heroes at the Monument of Peace.

On 20th evening the passing out officer cadets conducted the traditional research-based Final Presentation on “Building Social Resilience in Countering Violent Extremism and Home-grown Terrorism in Sri Lanka” which was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, retired Major General G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc together with former Commandants of SLMA, all PSO’s of the Army, a large number of senior officers, Zambian Defence Attache, distinguished invitees, officers of the Military Academy and officer cadets.
