The “Exercise Frozen Trout” is one of the major field exercises in cadet training which is conducted to educate them on conventional war fighting techniques in the general area of Ambewela under extreme weather and terrain conditions.
The week-long field exercise conducted from 09th August to 15th August 2020 at Ambewela and Pattipola added a range of novel experiences to trainees of Intake 88B, 89, 90 and Lady Intake 18. The theoretical knowledge on four phases of war and conventional warfare tactics was extensively tested while educating them on how to successfully overcome practical problems which they are likely to face in the battlefield. The exercise bestowed realism with ample opportunities for appointment holders, in particular, to gain experience in handling troops. The exercise included aspects such as planning and sending recce/fighting patrols to gather intelligence, laying ambushes, launching and repulsing of counter attacks under extreme weather conditions etc.
The Commandant, Brigadier A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc, the Deputy Commandant Brigadier R W Ponnamperuma RSP psc and other Wing Heads also visited the exercise while the exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the OCW, Col W B M K G K Weerasekara WWV RWP RSP USP psc and Chief Instructor of the MTW, Col D K R N Silva RSP USP psc.
