The passing out of the Drill Instructor Course -120 was jubilantly held at the “Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium” of the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 24th August 2019. Brigadier S K Eshwaran USP psc Hdmc, the Commandant of the Academy graced the event as the Chief Guest along with the Wing Heads, a cross section of SLMA officers and other ranks from all Wings. 132 NCOs representing Army and four from the Police Special Task Force, who successfully completed their drill instructor course, received Drill Instructor badges from the Chief Guest.

The Sri Lanka Military Academy in commemorating the 27th Academy Day, organized religious and social activities under the guidance of the Commandant, Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran. Shramadana campaign were launched at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital on 18th August 2019.

On 12th August 2019, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake conducted a timely important speech on the military philosophy of ‘MISSION COMMAND’ for the Officer Cadets and the officer instructors of the Military Academy. During his lecture, he emphasized the concept of mission command to achieve relative advantages and the key principles such as exploration of initiative, building of cohesiveness, mutual trust, mission command orders, empowerment of subordinates to meet diversified multi-faceted combat threats and environments today and tomorrow. More importantly, the Commander emphasized on the dynamic role of a junior leader in complex fast-moving military domain by reinforcing the concept of Mission Command.

The second consecutive equestrian sports festival in Sri Lanka organized by the Equestrian Section of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in liaison with the Sri Lanka Equestrian Association (SLEA) was held on 11th August 2019 at the Polo Grounds, Diyatalawa. The occasion was graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake as the Chief Guest, Commander Security Force Headquarters (Cen), senior officers of the army and the police, the President of SLEA, Mr. Suranjith Premadasa and his officials, officers and families of SLMA and a large number of equestrian sports fans from around the country.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, the Commander of the Army auspiciously declared open a new Smart Classroom Complex consisting of six fully-fledged classrooms constructed under the patronage of Intake 16 on 11th August 2019, amidst chanting of pirith by Buddhist priests to invoke blessings. The data processing officer conducted a brief demonstration of all smart facilities available in all classrooms to the Commander and all invitees. The Commandant of the Military Academy, Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran presented the Commander of the Army, all officers of Intake 16, their course officer and instructors with special mementos in appreciation of their generosity.

A batch of 219 Officer Cadets from the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 2nd August. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by the senior officer cadets of SLMA. First, they were given an informative briefing on the Monument of Peace, Parade ground and the Drill Nursery. Also, they listened to a comprehensive presentation on the Academy’s history, cadet life, role and tasks, military and academic training, military culture etc. They had the opportunity of playing a friendly basketball match with the Academy team strengthening comradeship and sportsmanship. A camp fire organized at the Gamunu Watch camp ended their day at Diyatalawa.

The Opening Address of Intake 89 and 90 was held at the new Auditorium on 24th July 2019. Having warmly welcomed 102 Officer Cadets (88 Officer Cadets from Intake 89 and 14 Officer cadets from Intake 90) to the SLMA, the Commandant Brigadier S K Eshwaran USP psc Hdmc, emphasized the salient aspects of basic military training such as the transformation process from civil life to military life, responsibilities of trainees during their training period and the strong bondage among batch mates in pursuit of successful completion of training. Finally, the Commandant added his heartiest blessings to them in achieving their”Childhood Dream” of becoming an officer cadet.

Major General (Rtd) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat, the High Commissioner of Pakistan accompanied by his wife paid a courtesy visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 13th July 2019. The Deputy Commandant Brig K H K Kottawattha along with all Wing Heads warmly welcomed him at the main gate of the Academy. At the War Memorial, he paid floral tribute to the fallen heroes. Afterwards, he called on the Commandant, Brig S K Eshwaran at his office where the visiting High Commissioner was presented with a special plaque. He also visited the Equestrian section of the Academy prior to his departure.

The Opening Address of KDU Intake 37 was held at the new Auditorium on 03rd July 2019. Having warmly welcomed the 136 Officer Cadets to the Sri Lanka Military Academy, the Commandant Brigadier S K Eshwaran USP psc Hdmc, stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, behaviour and their commitment and dedication to follow military training successfully. Finally, the Commandant wished them all the best to follow their training course at SLMA.

The SLMA conducted an outward-bound training programme for undergraduates of the Sri Jayawardenapura University on Personality and Skills Development from 19th to 26th June 2019. The Commandant Brigadier Shantha Eshwaran extended a warm welcome to the participants in his welcome address conducted in the New Auditorium.
