The traditional Pipping Ceremony which symbolizes the removal of cadet insignia and wearing of officer insignia was ceremonially conducted at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest together with the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff and Principal Staff Officers. The ceremony was also graced by Defence Attaches and Advisors, Senior Officers of the Army and Academy staff.

The 95th Commissioning Parade of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa was ceremonially held on 19th December 2020 at the Academy parade ground with the participation of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest. Customarily, the Chief Guest upon arrival, paid floral tribute to the fallen heroes at the Monument of Peace.

On 18th evening, a syndicate comprising of twenty-one officer cadets from passing out intakes conducted the research-based Final Presentation on “The Sri Lankan Government’s Response in Successfully Containing Covid – 19 and Role of Stakeholders” which was graced by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc together with former Commandants of SLMA, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Staff Officers, a large number of senior officers, Defence Attaches and Advisors, distinguished invitees, faculty members and officer cadets of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.

At the Sri Lanka Military Academy, the Commandant’s Parade is traditionally held two days prior to the Commissioning Parade. On 16th December 2020, the Commandant’s Parade on account of the 95th Commissioning Ceremony was ceremonially held at the Academy Parade Ground with the participation of the Commandant, Brig A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc as the Chief Guest.

The Annual Inter-Company Combat Firing Meet-2020 was held at the Field Firing Range of Fox Hill on 25th and 26th September 2020. The firing meet was organized in order to test leadership skills of officer cadets, their skills in clearing obstacles, section level fire and maneuver and effective engagement of targets in a battle environment. The officer cadet intakes of 88, 88B, 89, Lady 18 representing four companies competed for the Trophy of Champion Company. The clearing of Battle Obstacles, two-kilometer-run and engaging in targets while tactical maneuver were the biggest challenges for the competitors.

Final term officer cadets of Intakes 88, 88 Bravo and Lady 18 successfully completed filed exercise SCORPION, one of the major exercise during their training period. The Exercise was conducted in four detachements at Wellawaya with the objective of providing the practical knowledge on military engagement in Internal Security situations.

The Boxing Meet 2020 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on Friday, 29th August 2020 at the Academy Gymnasium where the officer cadets of intake 88, 88B and lady 18 vied for the title of “Best Boxer” in 09 weight categories for both men and women; 64 kg light welter weight, 56 kg bantam weight, 60 kg light weight, 64 kg light welter weight, 69 kg welter weight ,75 kg middle weight, 81 kg light heavy weight and 57 kg feather weight (female), 60 kg light weight (female).
