The Opening Address by the Commandant is a traditional military practice which means to give some prior guidelines on military transformation and encouragements to the newly joined trainees at SLMA. Intake Lay 19 consisting of 27 young lady cadets had their Opening Address at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium at 0900hrs on 20 January 2022 and the event was graced by the Commandant-SLMA Brig W W H R R V M N D K B Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc, along with Wing Heads, Senior Officers and Officers of the Academy.
By coagulating the lady cadets on their achievement of being selected to follow the one-year military training at SLMA, the Commandant emphasized on team spirit in pursue of common goals in military instead of working on individualism. They were also instructed on assimilation of military values such as equality, self-directed personality, decision- making, positive thinking, discipline, building of character in the tour of their basic military training, irrespective of belonging to diverse socio cultural backgrounds. Finally, the Commandant added his whole-hearted wishes to the Intake for successful and remarkable completion of military training at Diyatalawa.
Afterwards, the Commanding Officer-Officer Cadet Wing, the Director Academics- Academic Wing and Chief Instructor – Military Training Wing conducted a few worthwhile lectures to these new commers on core military disciplines, academic and military training curriculums to educate and orientate them to the military training environment.
