On 15th evening, the Commissioning Dinner which is traditionally held to welcome the newly commissioned officers to the officer corps of the Army was held at the Officer Cadets’ Mess with the participation of the Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, all Principal Staff Officers, Colonel Commandants, Colonels of the Regiments and Defence attaches and Advisors of friendly foreign counties.

The traditional Pipping Ceremony was conducted in the newly declared open Headquarters & Auditorium Complex and it was attended by the Commander of the Army, the Commandant and all officers of SLMA, parents and well-wishers.

The 93rd Commissioning Parade of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa was ceremonially held on 15th December 2018 at the Academy parade ground with the participation of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena as the Chief Guest. Upon arrival, the President was welcomed by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake and Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne and he paid floral tribute to the fallen heroes at the Monument of Peace.

The Awards Ceremony 2018 was held on 12th December at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, where 71 Officer Cadets received medals, certificates and trophies from the Chief Guest, Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne, the Commandant of the institute. The Ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads, officer and NCO instructors and all officer cadets.

The passing out parade of Drill Instructor Course no 118 was held on 06th December 2018 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne RSP psc, the Commandant of the institute graced the occasion as the Chief Guest with the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads and a cross section of officers and other ranks from all Wings. There were also invitee officers representing all regiments of the Army.

Thirty-eight lady and gentleman officer cadets of DE II/2018, whose military training commenced on 24thJuly 2018, received their course completion certificates at a special ceremony held at the Colonel Fazly Laphir Memorial Auditorium on 1st December 2018. The ceremony was graced by the Commandant, Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne as the Chief Guest while the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads, Company Commanders and Course Officers also attended the event. The Commandant during his closing remarks underscored the importance of basic military training as well as positive attitude for successful future functioning in their respective fields.

The first ever “Gala Nite” was staged at the Torch Cinema of SLMA on 01st December 2018 in the presence of the Commandant, Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne and staff of the institute. It was a full-blown performance of short humorous dramas, songs and dances - all performed by lady and gentleman cadets of all terms.

203 undergraduates and 7 lecturers from the University of Wayamba called on the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 17th November 2018 for a two-day research based field workshop. Upon arrival, they paid tribute to the Cenotaph erected in memory of the fallen heroes.

Two Officers and 7 SNCOs of Bangladesh Army visited the Military Academy on 15th November 2018. Head of Training Team, Course Officer of Drill Instructor Course, Academy Sargent Major and Wing Sergeant Majors cordially welcomed them to the institute. They visited the Monument of Peace, Parade Square, Library and the SLMA Equestrian Section.

The officer cadets of Intake 85, 86, 86 B, 58(V), Lady 16 and Lady 15(V) participated in the “Ex Wanabambara”, the last and the longest of all exercises conducted by the SLMA from 18th October 2018 to 10th November 2018. This company level exercise, conducted in Walamandiya, Maduru Oya, is designed to test their ability in planning and conducting counterinsurgency operations in jungle and rural areas as platoon commanders.
