Thirty- three Officer Cadets of Direct Enlisted Officer Cadet Intake I – 2019 and Lady Officer Cadet Intake 16 (V) have joined the SLMA for their basic military training. The above DE intake comprising of 23 professionals from various fields such as medicine (2), engineering (12), and English language teaching (9) are ready to undergo their basic intensive military training for a period of four months. Meanwhile, the 10 Lady Officer Cadets who were enlisted to the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Army upon their G.C.E (A/L) qualifications and other credentials commenced their one year long basic military training package.

The Oaths Ceremony of Intake 87 B and Lady 17 took place on 20th February 2019 at the Academy Gymnasium where 219 lady and gentleman cadets read the oaths of allegiance to the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Army and the country.

Brigadier S K Eshwaran RSP psc Hdmc, who was trained at the very institute 31 years ago with Intake 27, took over duties as the thirty-third Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on January 17th, 2019. Upon arrival, he laid a wreath at the Monument of Peace erected to honour the fallen officers.

On 16th January 2019, the family of the SLMA held a series of events to bid farewell to the former Commandant Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne who completed a two year tenure at Diyatalawa. In his departure he was accorded with a grand ceremonial military parade at the academy parade square.

Having warmly welcomed the 18 Lady Officer Cadets to the Sri Lanka Military Academy, the deputy Commandant Col K H K Kottawattha RWP RSP USP, stressed the importance of maintaining the discipline and behaviour.

The Opening Address of Intake 87 B was held at the Col Fazly Laphir Auditorium on 8th January 2019. Having warmly welcomed the 205 cadets to the Sri Lanka Military Academy, the Commandant Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne RSP psc, stressed the importance of maintaining the discipline and behavior. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of officer cadets’ commitment and dedication to follow training successfully. Finally, the Commandant wished them all the best to follow their training course at the SLMA.

The Commander, Army Training Command (ARTRAC) and Director General Training, Maj Gen W A Wanniarachchi WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc together with his training officers, paid his maiden official visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 07th January 2019. The Commandant Brigadier H H A S P K Senaratne RSP psc, the Deputy Commandant, all Wing Heads and his staff warmly welcomed him. He also laid a wreath at the Monument of Peace in paying tribute to fallen officers.

The Sri Lanka Military Academy inaugurated the first working day of the new year with a flag - hoisting ceremony held at the New Headquarters, where the Deputy Commandant, Colonel K H K Kottawattha RWP RSP USP and the Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing, Colonel Ajith Wickramasekera hoisted the National and Academy flags respectively in the presence of all Wing Heads and a cross section of officers, civil lecturers, other ranks and civil employees. Having observed a two - minute silence in honour of fallen war heroes, the Adjutant - SLMA read the Government employees’ oaths. Afterwards, the Deputy Commandant read the new year message issued by the Commander of the Army, which underscored the armed personnel’s contribution to the attainment of sustainable development in the country.

A two-day refresher course for all officer instructors and academic lecturers of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was conducted on 27th and 28th of December 2018. Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne, the Commandant emphasized, in his opening remarks, the importance of revising and updating the knowledge and teaching methodology of all instructors and lecturers. This course is traditionally held prior to the commencement of a new semester, to help instructors refresh their subject knowledge and methods of instruction. The course also included stimulating sessions on public speaking & presentation skills, lecture on MS Branch Duties by a senior officer from the MS Branch and a debate on “Trainees should have free access to technology” conducted by course officers and academic lectures.
