The Boxing Meet 2020 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on Friday, 29th August 2020 at the Academy Gymnasium where the officer cadets of intake 88, 88B and lady 18 vied for the title of “Best Boxer” in 09 weight categories for both men and women; 64 kg light welter weight, 56 kg bantam weight, 60 kg light weight, 64 kg light welter weight, 69 kg welter weight ,75 kg middle weight, 81 kg light heavy weight and 57 kg feather weight (female), 60 kg light weight (female).
Altogether there were thirteen final bouts and O/Cdt W M M H Weerasinghe of Intake 88B claimed the title of the Best Boxer while O/Cdt G W D K Withanage of Intake 88 was adjudged as the Best Loser. The exhibition bout performed by two professional boxers from the Sri Lanka Artillery and Ordnance Corps added extra glamour to the event.
The Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigadier A K G K U Gnanaratne ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with Deputy Commandant and wing heads, officers, other ranks and officer cadets of all intakes. Brigadier K R K K T Bandara RSP USP (BGS) of the Security Force Headquarters (Central) and Brigadier J M C Jayaweera RSP psc (Brig Trg) of the Army Training Command were also present to witness the annual boxing meet of the Academy.
