‘Sinhala and Tamil New Year’, a cultural ritual performed to honour the God of Sun for hundreds of years marks the end of the harvest season of our country. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year also prioritizes varied beliefs, customs, and religious practices associated with its traditional agriculture. Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil shared his earnest wishes to the all military personnel, civil servants and their families through his annual message, 2021.
The message as per the direction of the Commandant was read out to all officers, officer cadets and other ranks of the military academy by the Adjutant-SLMA, Maj RAA Ranawaka RWP RSP USP psc SLLI on 20 April 2022. In his speech, General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil underscored how the previous year brought health challenges to all citizenry, healthcare workers, security forces and other enterprises of the country adversely affecting all sectors of the country. Further, army’s contribution to instigate the government’s agriculture efforts was also praised. All army personnel were advised to understand the ongoing socio-economic upheavals and to behave wisely giving utmost contribution to restore the stability of the country. All these obstacles could be overcome with the firm notion of “Nothing Impossible” while extending its service for the safeguard of the nation. The welfare of the soldiers also has become a prime concern of the Army, which is being addressed periodically and appropriately from all possible directions such as battalion, regiment, training school lines. Finally, his blessings for a peaceful, joyful, prosperous and healthy new year was extended for all military and non-military personnel of the army and the country standing on the motto of “The Defenders of the Nation”.
