Field visits for students are generally organized to reinforce their experiential and contextual learning. On 30th May 2023, twenty two Midshipmen of the 68th Intake and two Officers from the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee visited the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa as one of their destinations of their study tour.
On their arrival, the visitors were warmly welcomed by Officer Commanding- Gannoruwa Company, Coordinating Officers, Adjutant-OCW along with Senior Cadet Government appointment holders at the main entrance of the Academy, where the delegation was briefed on significant historical sacred places of the Academy; the War Memorial, Parade Ground and Academy Mission Structure by a few trainee Officer Cadets. Then, they moved to the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium where SLMA presentation was conducted to impart an overall understanding about the role and tasks of the Military Academy, followed by Academy documentary video. Interestingly, these Naval Officer Cadets got an opportunity to have a friendly interaction with the SLMA Officer Cadets while enjoying refreshments at the Officer Cadets’ Mess. Afterwards, a friendly volleyball match with the SLMA Volleyball team was organized at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium. After gaining a competitive sporty experience, the delegation was hosted with a special lunch at the Officer Cadets’ Mess, where trainees of SLMA and NMA together posted for a group photograph in the backdrop of the Officer Cadets’ Mess steps before setting off for their next destination from SLMA.
