To commemorate the establishment of the Ceylon Army, which comprised both Regular and Volunteer Forces on 10 October 1949, various military establishments organized anniversary celebrations. On 10 October 2023, the Sri Lanka Military Academy conducted a special programme to celebrate the 74th Army Day Anniversary.

The programme began with the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier R R M P N B Bambaradeniya RWP RSP USP psc, hoisting the Army flag. Following this, the Army anthem was sung, and a two-minute silence was observed in honour of the fallen warriors who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Major US Ranaweera psc SLAC, the Adjutant of the Military Academy, delivered a felicitation message issued by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu. The message highlighted the Sri Lanka Army's multifaceted role, encompassing both conventional warfare and disaster relief and management, emphasizing the importance of discipline and conduct that all military personnel and civilian employees must adhere to within the Sri Lanka Army.

Later on, officers and other rank instructors serving at SLMA watched the live telecast of the Guard of Honour, which was broadcast on the Sri Lanka Army's official Facebook page at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium. An all ranks lunch was organized to foster friendly relationships among all military personnel and civilian staff currently serving at SLMA.
