BOXING MEET OF THE SLMA – 2023 TO EXHIBIT “POWER OF FISTS”

Under the theme of “ Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,you can’t hit what your eyes don’t see” the Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on 21st October 2023 at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium with the participation of the officer cadet intakes 92, 92 B, SC 20 and 92 A contesting for the title of “The Best Boxer” under eleven weight categories.

Out of twelve final bouts, four of the most exciting bouts were chosen for the finals to give spectators a breathtaking experience amidst non-stop cheers of intake mates. After a series of very competitive rounds, L/O/Cdt SADMKT Wijesinghe of Intake SC 20 was able to claim the title of ‘The Best Boxer-Female’ while Cdt/Cpl RMJC Senavirahna of Intake 92B upheld the title of ‘The Best Boxer-Male’. Meanwhile, L/O/Cdt MWGTS Weerasinghe of Intake SC 20 was adjudged as ‘The Best Loser-Female’ and Pl/U/O GKM Malshan of Intake 92 emerged as ‘The Best Loser-Male’.

With an Exhibition Bout, two professional boxers from the Sri Lanka Army Boxing Pool, Pte Pushpakumara RM from Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and L/Cpl Siriwardana HMI from Mechanized Infantry Regiment glamourized the event. In fact, the immense support extended by the Sri Lanka Boxing Association as Referees and Judges throughout the competition were also recognized and they were credited with tokens of appreciations at the Prize Awarding Ceremony.

The Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Brigadier RRMPNB Bambaradeniya RWP RSP USP psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with Wing Heads, senior officers and officers while hundreds of officer cadets and other ranks attended the event to share the excitement and intensity of the game of BOXING at the Academy Gymnasium on Saturday eve.
