The 95th Commissioning Parade of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa was ceremonially held on 19th December 2020 at the Academy parade ground with the participation of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest. Customarily, the Chief Guest upon arrival, paid floral tribute to the fallen heroes at the Monument of Peace.
The parade was also graced by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc together with former Commandants of SLMA, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, all Principal Staff Officers, Colonel Commandants and Colonels of Regiments, Directors, senior officers, Defence Attaches and Advisors from many friendly foreign countries, distinguished invitees and last but not the least parents of passing out officer cadets.
A total of 187 lady and gentleman officer cadets from Regular Intake 88, 88B and Lady 18 including one officer cadet from the Republic of Maldives and two officer cadets from the Republic of Zambia received the prestigious President’s Commission from the Chief Guest. Also, eleven Sri Lankan officer cadets who underwent basic military training in India, Pakistan, China and England received their commission.
The Sword of Honour awarded to the Best All-Round Officer Cadet and the President’s Award for the First in Order of Merit were received by Bn/U/O S M Thuduwahenage.
The President’s Award for the First in Order of Merit was awarded to PL/U/O R M T G P Rathnayaka while the Sword of Honour awarded to the Best All-Round Officer Cadet was received by Coy/U/O H R B Alahakoon.
The President’s Award for the First in Order of Merit was awarded to Pl/U/O K S M Wijayaweera.
The Chief Guest and Commander of the Army together with the staff of the Academy posed for intake photographs at the Parade ground and an ironwood sapling was planted by the Chief Guest in front of the parade ground to mark the successful conduct of the 95th Commissioning Parade and related events.
The ceremony proceedings were conducted by strictly adhering to the necessary health guidelines on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.
