On 18th evening, a syndicate comprising of twenty-one officer cadets from passing out intakes conducted the research-based Final Presentation on “The Sri Lankan Government’s Response in Successfully Containing Covid – 19 and Role of Stakeholders” which was graced by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc as the Chief Guest, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc together with former Commandants of SLMA, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Staff Officers, a large number of senior officers, Defence Attaches and Advisors, distinguished invitees, faculty members and officer cadets of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
The comprehensive presentation covered the origin and spread of the virus regionally as well as internationally, preparedness of the Sri Lankan government, the strategy adopted by the country to contain the pandemic, role of key stakeholders, highlighting the gigantic role played by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) headed by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc. The research presentation also included recommendations through “Way Forward for a Healthy Nation” and a scientific analysis of the second wave.
Concurrent to the Final Presentation, the second consecutive ‘SLMA Journal’ was launched where the first copy was presented to the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) G D H Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc by Brigadier AKGKU Gnanaratne ndc psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
The Chief Guest, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence in his speech appreciated the efforts made by passing out officer cadets and staff of SLMA for conducting a comprehensive research on the COVID 19 pandemic and did not forget to congratulate the presentation syndicate for the wonderful job done.
