Col JIBW Pallekumbura ato, who was born on 26.12.1974 is a proud product of St.Silvester college Kandy. This senior officer joined the regular force of sri lanka army on 03.01.1996 an officer cadet of intake 44. Upon successful completion of basic military training at sri lanka military academy, Diyathalawa. He was commissioned in the rank of second lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps on 12th December 1997.

During his military career, he has held various appointments in both operational, non-operational and staff appointments including

  • presently this senior officer is serving as the Commandant - Base Ordnance Depot - Ragama.

    To his credit, he has attended several local and foreign courses of academic and professional value. These include Junior Staff Course 25 at SLMA (DLA); Commanding Officer and Second-in-Command Course (2015); Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management Course (Operational Level); Young Officer Course 29 in Pakistan; Junior Staff Course Air Defence 40 in Pakistan; Mid-Career Course 34 in Pakistan; Senior Management Officer Course 40 in India; Ammunition Engineer Course in China; Rocket and Missile Artillery Ordnance Course in Russia; and Higher Ordnance Management Course (HOM) 58 in India.

    He is a distinguished boxer with an outstanding sporting record. He was awarded the prestigious Stubbs Shield Gold Medal for five consecutive years from 1987 to 1993 and remains the unbeaten school boxing record holder. He was the team captain of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy, and was awarded Sri Lankan School Colours for boxing in 1993. He was also recognized as the Best Boxer at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in 1997. In addition to his competitive achievements, he has contributed significantly to the development of boxing in the Army by serving as Secretary of the Army Boxing Committee from 2007 to 2010 and has been a National Referee since 2005.

    This senior officer has been conferred with the East Humanitarian Operation Medal, North Humanitarian Operation Medal, Purna Bhumi Padakkama, North and East Operations Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Medal (1998), Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary Medal (1999), 75th Independence Anniversary Medal (2023), Sri Lanka Army 75th Anniversary Medal (2024), Sewabimani Padakkama, and Sewa Padakkama.

    He is married to Mrs.Chamika Wijesinghe and is blessed with two daughters and one son.
