The annual Sinhala & Hindu New year festival of Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps Seva Vanitha Unit (SLAOC - SVU) was held on 21st April of “Ranaviru gama” Play Ground Dombagoda Horana.
Major General BS Vidanage Col Comdt of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and Quarter Master General of Sri Lanka Army attended the occasion on the chief guest where many traditional games and entertaining features were conducted.
Reminding of the old traditions of Sri Lankan culture, play ground area was transformed in to a ancient village consisting “Gamagedara”, “Vedagedara”, “Kamatha”, “Kadamandiya”, “Ra hala” and also main roles of ancient village such as Archchi, Manike, Pina, Wedamama, village blacksmith added more glomour and attraction to the events.
The event included many varieties of traditional games, sports,races & fun making features in keeping with ancient customs which included Marathon, tug of war, selection of beauty Queen (Bakmaha Kumariya), many more traditional games. Also “Ginisisila” & “Thovil” dance event by SLAOC culture dance group & various new year dancing events by Sri Lanka Army culture group dominated the day’s proceedings to the much amusement of all the onlookers.
The event culminated with a colourful musical night, backed by the Ordnance Super Round Band.
Senior Officers, Members of Ordnance Seva Vanitha unit, Offiers & ORs along with their families, Adjacent villagers of Ranavirugama were participated for this colourful event.
