SCHOLARSHIP AND EXERCISE BOOKS AWARDING CEREMONY

SLAOC Seva Vanitha Unit organized a scholarship and exercise books awarding ceremony according to the unanimous decision taken by its& executive committee and the regimental council of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps in cooperation with the National Savings Bank on 29 December 2016 at the Defence Services College auditorium in Colombo.Maj Gen R V Udawatte psc ato, Colonel Commandant, SLAOC, together with the President, SLAOC Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs N D Udawatte, welcomed the day Chief Guest Lt Gen A W J C De Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander of the Army and Mrs. Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit at the entrance to the Defence Services College auditorium.

Lt Gen A W J C De Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc and Mrs. Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit lighted the traditional oil lamp as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. President SLAOC Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs N D Udawatte delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony.Scholarships worth about Rs. 1.2 million were awarded among 100 students who had succeeded in the Grade 5 scholarship examination and based on their classroom performances. 50 scholarships were funded by the NSB.Comd of Army, President Army Seva Vaitha Unit and NSB chairman presented 128 book parcels as a symbolic gesture. 1482 students who are learning in schools belongs to Ordnance family will be received their book parcels total value of Rs 1.1 million before the commencement of last term school vacation.Vice President SLAOC Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Maneesha Vidyananda delivered the vote of thank and several dancing events of Army dancing team and Chandana Wickramasinghe dancing troop made the event colourful. Visharada Edward Jayakody and his daughter entertained the gathering by the song Sulangak wee mama yanawa Maj Gen H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff, Maj Gen S H Munasinghe RWP RSP USP Director General Army Medical Services, Maj Gen R Rathnasingham Quarter Master General, Brig J P A Jayawardhane (Retd) USP president Ordnance Association and several other senior officers were present.Mr. Aswin De Silva, Chairman National Savings Bank, Mr S D N Perera, General Manager/CEO of the National Savings Bank was also present.Senior military officers, other rankers, children and a large gathering of families were present at the event.
