Major General W M S N Wijekoon ndc AATO officially assumed duties as the 18th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps on 09 July 2025, during a dignified and graceful ceremony held at the Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (RHQ SLAOC), Dombagoda.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a warm reception extended by Brigadier A G C R Amarasinghe USP ato, the Centre Commandant of SLAOC, at the main entrance. A formal guard turnout by the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps was presented in honour of the incoming Colonel Commandant followed by the Guard of Honour.
Following traditions, Major General Sumedha Wijekoon paid a floral tribute at the Fallen War Heroes Monument and planted a sapling at the RHQ premises, symbolizing growth and remembrance. A group photograph with the officers was then taken to mark the occasion.
A brief religious observance was held, after which Major General Sumedha Wijekoon placed his signature in the official document, signifying his formal assumption of duties as the Colonel Commandant, in the presence of the Council members, Senior Officers, Officers and the regimental staff.
An All Ranks tea was organized subsequently, providing an opportunity for officers and other ranks to extend their greetings to the new Colonel Commandant. Addressing the gathering, Major General Sumedha Wijekoon emphasized the importance of unity, professionalism, and the collective responsibility of all ranks in upholding the proud legacy of the Corps. He further highlighted the need to foster a culture of discipline, integrity, and continuous development in order to face future challenges effectively.
The ceremony reflected the Corps’ traditions and values, and marked the beginning of a new chapter under the leadership of Major General W M S N Wijekoon ndc AATO.
