THE SRI LANKA ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS PAYS A SOLEMN TRIBUTE TO ITS FALLEN WAR HEROES

The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps paid a heartfelt tribute to its fallen war heroes on 13rd October 2024, commemorating the Corps' 75th Anniversary at the Ordnance War Heroes Monument, located at the Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps. Major General EMM Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, the Logistics Commander and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was received with honors by the Centre Commandant, Colonel AGCR Amarasinghe USP ato.

This annual commemoration honors the sacrifice of 61 brave soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the nation during the conflict against LTTE terrorism. In recognition of this significant milestone, the tribute began on 12th October 2024 with a Pirith chanting ceremony at the School of Ordnance’s conference hall, invoking blessings for the fallen heroes. The following morning, on 13rd October, a Heel Dana was offered to the monks who had participated in the Pirith chanting, maintaining the spiritual tone of the remembrance.

Following the formal ceremony at the monument, a tea party was organized at the Regimental Headquarters for the families of the fallen war heroes, giving them an opportunity for reflection and fellowship. In a further expression of the Corps support, the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps Seva Vanitha Branch, led by its President, Mrs. Iresha Fernando & members of the Seva Vanitha Branch presented financial gifts to the families of the fallen soldiers at a special event held in the School of Ordnance conference hall. Lunch was subsequently served at the Corporal Club concluding the day’s proceedings.

The event was attended by Mrs. Iresha Fernando, President of the SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, Major General EMM Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, senior members of the Seva Vanitha Branch, senior officers, other ranks, and family members of the fallen heroes. This series of events not only honored the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers but also highlighted the Corps enduring commitment to the welfare of the families who bear the loss of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s sovereignty.
