In commemoration of the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), as well as in recognition of World Elders' Day, the Seva Vanitha Branch of the SLAOC, in collaboration with the School of Ordnance, spearheaded a community outreach initiative at the "Mawpiya Sewana" Elders' Home in Horana on 01 October 2024.
Under the guidance of Mrs. Iresha Fernando, President of the SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, and with the directions of Major General EMM Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, Commander of Logistics Command and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, this impactful event aimed to uplift the welfare of the elderly residents.
The day’s activities included the donation of essential items for the home's residents, a comprehensive cleaning programme, and a luncheon prepared for the elders. The entertainment segment featured a Calypso band, ensuring the residents enjoyed a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
Personnel from the School of Ordnance, both officers and other ranks, played a vital role in executing the event, demonstrating their commitment to the Army’s ethos of service to the community.
Distinguished attendees included Mrs. Iresha Fernando, Major General EMM Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, senior members of the SLAOC Seva Vanitha Branch, the Commandant of the School of Ordnance, the Centre Commandant, Senior Officers, and other ranks, all of whom contributed to making the occasion a memorable success.
