  • RUSSIAN ARMY HIGH PROFILE DELEGATION PAID A RECIPROCAL VISIT TO SRI LANKA ARMY HUMANITARIAN DEMINING UNIT

    A Russian Army delegation headed by Chief of Engineering Troops of Russian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Iurri Stavitskii reached Sri Lanka on 10 December 2019. As a result of bilateral military cooperation developed through Military Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018, the delegation reached Sri Lanka to experience the contribution made by Sri Lanka Army on mine action process through the Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Unit (SLA HDU).

  • Colonel Commandant visited to Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering

    Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General H J S Gunawardana RSP VSV USP ndc psc officially visited Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) at Thunkama, Embilipitiya on 26 November 2019. During his visit he grace the National Vocational Training (NVQ) Graduation Ceremony as the chief guest followed by he declared open New Pier for Training and Sappers’ Floating Villa at SLSME.

  • FLORAL TRIBUTE TO FALLEN WAR HEROES IN THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS WAS CONDUCTED AT THE WAR HEROES’ MONUMENT

    In line with the anniversary functions a floral tribute to fallen war heroes in the Corps of Engineers was conducted at the war heroes’ monument. The event conveyed a deep reverence to the fallen War Heroes in the Corps of Engineers, who made the supreme sacrifice in liberating our motherland from the clutches of terrorism. A large gathering consisting of spouses, children, parents and next of kin of the fallen war heroes participated in this event on 23rd November 2019. On the invitation of the Centre Commandant, the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General HJS Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event commenced with the lighting of the monument lamp followed by the National Anthem, Army Song and the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Song. Two minutes silence was observed in memory of the fallen war heroes followed by the narration of remembering the Fallen War Heroes. A “Ranabera Wadanaya” was displayed as a special event of the day followed by religious observances of major denominations. A brief sermon by Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islamic clergy invoked blessings and offered merits for fallen Sapper War Heroes and those presently serving.

  • TROOPS FROM CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS SET TO SERVE IN THE UNITED NATIONS MULTIDIMENSIONAL INTEGRATED STABILIZATION MISSION IN MALI

    One more Sri Lankan Army contingent, comprised of 243 Army personnel on Combat Convoy Company (CCC) including two sapper officers and 27 sappers, set to serve in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) left the country 13 November 2019.

  • THE ARMY ENGINEERS WON THE WORLD BEST MINE DETECTION DOG (MDD) TEAM AWARD – 2019

    The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI), an international humanitarian organization dedicated to removing landmines and promoting stability, has been assisting the Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit (SLA HDU) since 2003. They support SLA HDU in their humanitarian effort to clear landmines and Explosive Remnants of War by providing 26 Mine Detection Dogs and pertinent training with the assistance of the US State Department and private donors. The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) annually organize a gala event to appreciate the work of demining dogs and their contribution worldwide.

  • CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS TRAINING TEAM COMMENCES BOMB AND IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES DISPOSAL TRAINING (BIEDDT) FOR MALDIVIES NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE

    As request made by the Defence Wing of Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Sri Lanka to conduct basic and advance course on Bomb and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal Training (BIEDDT) for Maldivies National Defence Force (MNDF) a training team constituted with five officers and five Other Ranks are currently deployed at MNDF Central Headquarters, Khadhoo Island in Maldives. The opening ceremony of the Basic Course was held on 16 October 2019 with the participation of senior officials of MNDF and the Chief Field Engineer Sri Lanka Army Major General TJ Nanayakkara RWP VSV USP ndu graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour representing the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

  • Volunteer Force Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship - 2019

    Much-awaited finals of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship - 2019 played at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers won the ‘A’ division championship and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps became the Runners Up. Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc graced the occasion as the chief guest and distribute awards to highfliers in the tournament, together with a host of other senior officers and volleyball fans in the Army.

  • CHIEF FIELD ENGINEER VISITS ENGINEER BRIGADE AND UNDER COMMAND REGIMENTS

    The Chief Field Engineer of Sri Lanka Army, Major General TJ Nanayakkara RWP VSV USP ndu paid an official visit to Headquarters Engineer Brigade, 8, 9 and 10 Field Engineer Regiments after taking the office of Chief Field Engineer few months back. The visit to Engineer Brigade and 8 Field Engineer Regiment was scheduled on 16 September 2019 and he visited 9 and 10 Field Engineer Regiments on 17 and 18 September subsequently. The Chief Field Engineer was ceremonially welcomed at each station followed by a briefing on current operational commitments by heads of the institutions.
