The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc made his first official visit to the Headquarters SLE on 01 July 2020 after assuming duties as the new Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

Newly promoted Brigadier M Mayadunna RSP USP took over the office as the Regimental Centre Commandant of the corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, with effect from 10 February 2020. He was enlisted to the Army on 14 July 1990 and commissioned to the corps of Sri Lanka engineers as a Second Lieutenant on 06 June 1992 having completed his Basic Military Training at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. He was subsequently promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant on 03 July 1994, Captain on 15 January 1997, Major on 20 October 2001, Lieutenant Colonel on 28 December 2009, Colonel on 09 August 2017 and Brigadier on 15 June 2020.

HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the recommendations of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army promoted two sapper officers, Brigadier Nihal Amarasekara and Brigadier Nishantha Herath to the rank of Major General, effective from 22 May 2020.

The Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc visited the 11 Field Engineer Regiment at Nochchiyagama as his first official unit visit, as the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers on the invitation of The Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel J A C S Jagoda psc SLE, on (Thursday) 12 March 2020. At the main entrance He was warmly welcome by the Commanding Officer and bestowed with Guard Turnout as per the military tradition.

The Instructor Team of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on the Invitation of MNDF presently deployed at Maldives has successfully concluded the Bomb and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal Training (BIEDDT) generating basic and advanced Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Operators to MNDF building bomb disposal capabilities and operational response in order to prepare for any eventualities. The student participants in the course constituted with Officers and Other Ranks representing various services of MNDF.
