Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc

Major General Kapila Dolage assumed duties as the 67th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army on 26 June 2025. He also serves as the 24th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers since 23 June 2025.

Major General Kapila Dolage had received primary education at Sir James Peiris Maha Vidyalaya, Nanuoya, and completed secondary education at Royal College, Colombo. After appearing the A/L exam he joined the Sri Lanka Army on 9 January 1990. Having successfully completed the basic military training Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyatalawa, he was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers on 15 June 1991. He was the recipient of the ‘President’s Medal’ awards to First in Order of Merit and the ‘Sword of Honour’ awards to Best All Round Officer Cadet of Officer Cadet Intake 33.

During his military career, Major General Kapila Dolage performed numerous command, staff, and instructional appointments in varying levels. He served as a troop commander, squadron commander and regiment commanding officer in both field engineer and infantry roles. His main command appointments include Commanding Officer of 12 and 1 Field Engineer Regiments, Commander 571 Infantry Brigade, Kilinochchi, General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division, Mullaitivu and Engineer Division and the 22nd Commander of Security Force (Central) and Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Few of his notable staff appointments held are Colonel Commandant’s Secretariat (Col CS), Colonel General Staff at Army Training Command (ARTRAC) and Director/Director General Training at AHQ. He held instructional appointments as Directing Staff at DSCSC, Chief Instructor at Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) and the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College.

Major General Kapila Dolage's professional development has been shaped by a variety of local and international military training and education courses. He is a graduate of the Army Command and Staff College in 2004 and the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College in 2006. He holds a Master’s in Defence Studies from the University of Kelaniya (2005), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Malaya (2006), and a Master of Arts in Security Studies (Civil-Military Relations) from the Naval Postgraduate School, California (2016).

Throughout his career he had conducted detailed studies and produced a number of service papers on Officers’ and OR’s career progression and relevant action plans. Also, he has performed as the Brig (Plg) at National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) strategizing the Action Plans and took part in formulating the Army Way Forward 2020 -2025. Moreover, he was the President of the Committee for Army Defence Review 2030, Chairman of the Defence Services Defence Review 2030 and Chief Editor of the Committee for compilation of Army History 1999 - 2024 (50 to 75). He is also a lecturer on International Relations and Strategic Studies in various military training establishments.

He received numerous service medals, including the Uttama Seva Padakkama for unblemished service. He is married to Mrs. Lilanthi and blessed with a daughter and a son.
