    Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers is highly regarded for its excellent traditions, devotion, dedication and respect for the sapper heritage throughout its glorious history of 67 years. “Annual Retired Flag Rank Officers' Get Together” is a new concept brought in year 2018 to maintain fellowship and cohesiveness of matured and young, retired Flag Ranks and serving Senior Sapper Officers as well as a platform for professional Sappers to meet sharing their thoughts in a festive mood.

  • THE “EX SAHAYOGAYA” - LIVE CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENT TRAINING WAS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES AT SRI LANKA SCHOOL OF MILITARY ENGINEERING, EMBILIPITIYA

    It was decided to provide guidance and training support on CBRN aspect for Sri Lankan Army from Indian Army as a follow up action of the 7 th Army to Army Staff Talks. As a result, mobile CBRN training team from Indian Army arrivedat Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering and conducted first advanced CBRN course from 27 March 2019 to 01 May 2019, further more, the second course was conducted from 06 May 2019 to 07 June 2019.

  • ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF SRI LANKA ENGINEER ASSOCIATION HELD AT MATTEGODA ON 11 MAY 2019

    The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Sri Lanka Engineer Association for the year 2019 was held in a grand scale on 11 May 2019 at Engineer Association Headquarters “The Bridge” at Maththegoda. The AGM was represented by a large number of Other Ranks including retired Senior Non Commissioned officers, Officers and retired flag ranks of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The President of Sri Lanka Engineer Association Brig (Retd) HANT Perera and office bearers and advisors to the association welcomed all guest on their arrival and appreciated their invaluable contribution. The AGM was commenced at 1000 hrs and followed by the get-together. The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake attended the event as the Chief Guest and large number of serving officers and senior officers of the Corps were also presented at the event. The Commander of the Army made a valuable donation to the association for its future development.

  • SLA HDU PARTICIPATE AT THE NATIONAL MINE ACTION STRATEGY 2016-2020 WORKSHOP

    The Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs organized a workshop on National Mine Action Strategy Plan 2016-2020 in collaboration with the National Mine Action Centre and Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The event was held on 14 March 2019 at Mövenpick Hotel, Colombo.

  • NATIONAL MINE ACTION STRATEGY 2016-2020 OFFICIALLY DECLARED

    The National Mine Action Center (NMAC) which is under the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skill Development and Youth Affairs is the monitoring body to coordinate the Humanitarian demining activities in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit (SLA HDU) which is under command to the Engineer Brigade is a major stakeholder in the demining program in Sri Lanka. The target of the National Mine Action Program is to eradicate the menace of mines by 2020 in Sri Lanka. In this context, the NMAC in collaboration with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) organized a conference on 13 March 2019 at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo to declare the National Mine Action Strategy 2016-2020. The conference was chaired by Ms. Åsa Massleberg, Advisor, Statistic and Standard Division, GICHD.

  • Engineer brigade conducts awareness programme on national oil spill contingency plan

    Engineer Brigade coordinated a one-day awareness programme on national oil spill contingency plan and marine environment protection on 12 March 2019 at Sappers’ Home, Mattegoda. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) as a prerequisite for the annually held National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCOP) rehearsal. The lectures conducted were related to oil spill and marine environment protection which was delivered by two officials of MEPA, Mr. Neil Priyadarshana – Assistant Manager (Shipping Operations) and Mr. Nilantha Piyadasa – Assistant Manager (Provincial).

  • MARSHALL LEGACY INSTITUTE (MLI) DONATES A MINE DETECTING DOG (MDD) TO THE SRI LANKA ARMY HUMANITARIAN DEMINING UNIT (SLA HDU)

    The SLA HDU which functions under the Engineer Brigade received a new mine detecting dog (MDD) on 27 February 2019 to beef up the canine unit. This friendly gesture was a result of the understanding between the Sri Lanka Army and the US based Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI). This canine which was gifted to the SLA HDU will be joining the rest of the MDD’s presently in service to boost up the humanitarian demining operations in Sri Lanka. The Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and the Chief Field Engineer initiated the process in acquiring this MDD to fulfil the national necessity of mine clearing.

  • NEWLY CONSTRUCTED NCOS’ CLUB AT THE SCHOOL OF SRI LANKA MILITARY ENGINEERING WAS DECLARED OPEN

    Newly constructed NCOs Club at the School of Sri Lanka Military Engineering was declared open by the Colonel Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and Commander Security Force Headquarter (Jaffna) Major General D D U K Hettiarachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc on 27th February 2018. At the invitation of the Commandant of the School of Sri Lanka Military Engineering, Lieutenant Colonel WS Gamage RSP USP psc SLE, the Colonel Commandant Major General D D U K Hettiarachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc planted a tree sapling at the camp premises by giving a historic memory to the occasion. Afterwards he symbolically cut a ribbon at the entrance to the newly constructed NCOs mess and unveiled the plaque. Thereafter the Colonel Commandant and senior officers inspected the new building followed by tea. On the same day the chief guest participated for the certificate awarding ceremony to giveaway the certificates to sappers who qualified in the NVQ level III. Subsequently the first SLSME News magazine was handed over by the Commandant of the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering to the Chief Guest. After the troop address, the Chief Guest visited to witness newly constructed IEDs/Mines Hazard area. Finally the chief guest participated for the All Rank Lunch with Sapper Officers and Other Ranks of the School. Chief Field Engineer Major General H R K P Peiris USP ndu, the Commander Engineer Brigade Brigadier A N Amarasekara USP ndu, the Centre Commandant Brigadier N K L S R Dias RSP, the Commander Plant Engineering Brigade Colonel N P A Gunawardena RSP and several Senior Sapper Officers and Other Ranks participated for this event.

  • INITIATIVES TAKEN BY THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO UPLIFT THE WELFARE FACILTIES OF WAR HEROES FAMILIES

    Seva Vanitha Branch of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers launched a mega welfare project which was ceremonially held on 12 Feb 2019. On the guidance of the Colonel Commandant Major General D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc 2 Houses were constructed at Wadduwa and Kegalle and declared open facilitating 2 differently able soldiers of 1 Field Engineer Regiment. Mr Mohanashankar and Mrs Vathani Mohanashankar extended their generous donation of Rs 2 million to construct the two houses.
