Sappers family bids farewell to Major General Chinthaka Gamage on his completion of 34 years of illustrious military career in the Army on 27 January 2021. The farewell ceremony held at Corps Headquarters with a gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
On the last day of his service, in conformity with military traditions Major General Jagath Chinthaka Gamage was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna and accorded a Guard Turn out on his arrival at the venue. Afterwards, he laid a floral wreath at the War Heroes' monument in remembrance of fallen War Heroes. Subsequently, he was accorded with a guard of Honour. Afterwards, accompanied by Senior Officers he took part in an All-Ranks tea table at the utility building of RHQ SLE. Towards the end of the day’s programme, in a moving gesture all Officers and Other Ranks after the tea, honoured him in a street line farewell as his vehicle began to move on.
Major General Chinthaka Gamage joined Sri Lanka Army on 17 March 1986 and was Commissioned on 21 February 1987. Then completed nearly 35 years of service.
During his military career, he has held so many command, staff and instructor appointments in different capacities, and his final appointment was tha Commander Security Force – East.
