CHIEF FIELD ENGINEER SALUTE CAPTAIN PB RANASINGHE’S FINAL JOURNEY

The military funeral of Captain(Retd) PB Ranasinghe SLE, beloved father of Major General RMM Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP, who had served the country for more than 28 years, took place 03 July 2023 evening at Ampitiya General crematorium, amid a mammoth gathering of his military comrades and other mourners.

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army, arrived at the crematorium to pay his last respects. Serving Senior Officers, Retired Officers, and other mourners were also there to pay the last respect.

Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage Punchi Banda Ranasinghe was born on 24 June 1931 and he completed his education at Menkinhinna College. He has joined to the Army in the year 28 June 1951 as an Officer Cadet with the noble intention of protecting the unity of the motherland and he was posted to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. O/50552 Captain (Retd) PB Ranasinghe SLE belongs to the 5 Field Engineer Regiment who has devoted much of his life for the motherland by performing various operational duties in Jaffna, Mannar, Welioya, Vavuniya, Nagarayakulam and Ampara. After completing 28 years of service retired from the Army on 14 August 1979.

Captain(Retd) PB Ranasinghe SLE awarded with Republic of Sri Lanka Armed Service Medal, Army 25th Anniversary Medal, Presidents' Inauguration Medal, and Armed Services Long Service Medal for his honest and efficient performance of every duty assigned to him from the time he joined the Army until his retirement. He is an officer who has rendered valuable service to the army by winning the hearts of all ranks.

After rendering invaluable service to the Corps, the Army and the entire country in general, he passed away on 01 July 2023 due to a sudden illness while he was enjoying his retirement life with his family and relatives.
