Security Forces Commander - East paid a courtesy call on the Bishop of Batticaloa Most Rev Dr Joseph Ponniah on 23 December 2016 and exchanged views on existing situation in Batticaloa district and preparations for the Christmas.\r\n2. Later, Commander Security Forces - East and Bishop of Batticaloa exchanged mementos to mark the visit of Commander SF (E) to Bishops\' House. \r\n

\r\n1. Security Forces Commander (East) attended a concert of differently abled persons at Valachchanei in Batticaloa district on 23 December 2016. The event was organized by and organization known as \"VALVIN UTHAYAM” at Valachchenei.\r\n\r\n2. Later, SF Commander was invited to address the gathering at the event and Comd SF (E) stated that he is closely working with \"VALVIN UTHAYAM\" organization to upgrade the living standards of persons with disabilities in Batticaloa district.

In response to a request made by the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Mr. Kusal Dasarath de Silva, the Chief Organizer of Vajirarama Dhamma School Bambalapitiya, organized a donation programme at Jayasekararamaya Dhamma School, Aselapura, Welikanda on 25 December 2016. Students who have financial difficulties were presented much needed stationery items with the sponsorship of businessman, Mr. Vipula Dasanayake and Mrs. Darshani.

24 Division organized a Christmas Carol Programme along with St Ignatius Church at Ampara from 1900 hrs to 2130 hrs on 27 December 2016 to enhance the relationship between military and the civilians. Most Rev Fr Dr Cletus C Perera, Bishop of Rathnapura, Thusitha P Wanigasinghe - District Secretary Ampara, GOC 23 Div, Comd FMA (E), Snr officers of the Army, Air Force, Police and a large gathering of civilians participated the event and Comd SF (East) Maj Gen DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc was the chief guest.

Dr Vinya Ariyarathne, Hon. General Secretary, Shramadana Movement Sarvodaya organized a meeting on 28 December 2016 at Sarvodaya Development Education Institute and Farm at Sthurukondan – Batticaloa based on a request made by the Comd SF (E).

Maj Gen Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc Commander Security Forces (East) paid a courtesy call on Rear Admiral Travis Sinnaiah, WWV RWP RSP ndu psc Msc Commander Eastern Naval Area on 30 December 2016 at Eastern Naval Command in Trincomalee.\r\nDuring the call on Comd SF (E) and Comd Eastern Naval Area exchanged views on matters related to security, both in land and maritime of the eastern region as well as existing relationship between two services.\r\nMaj Gen KPA Jayasekara WWV RSP USP ndc psc GOC 22 Div, too accompanied the Comd SF (E) during the meeting.

Dawn of the New Year – 2017 was marked traditionally at Security Force Headquarters (East) by having an all ranks tea on Sunday 01 Jan 2017 morning with the presence of Maj Gen Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Comd SF (E). Meanwhile a cross section of Officers and ORs attended a special pooja at Somawathiya RajamahaViharaya in the evening.\r\n\r\nCommencement of work for the New Year took place right in front of the SFHQ building at 0900 hrs on 02 January 2017.

SF HQ (E) contributed to another gigantic project launched as notion of HE the President Mr.Maithreepala Sirisena. To mark the second anniversary of assumption of office by HE the President, a tree planting program was conducted at Siddapura farm of SF HQ (E) on 04 Jan 2017, under the patronage of Maj Gen Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc.
