The Chief Signal Officer, Major General N M Hettiarachchi USP psc Hdmc made his maiden official visit to the 2nd Volunteer Signal Regiment in Welikanda on 23 January 2019. On the arrival, the Chief Signal Officer was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer, Lt Col B M Jayaweera psc in line with military traditions.
The Chief Signal Officer symbolically planted a ‘Mango’ sapling to mark this visit and thereafter Commanding Officer briefed the existing Communication Systems within the AOR of SF East. After the briefing the Chief Signal Officer had an opportunity to discuss on matters pertaining to communication aspects and intensely inquired into the present status of existing communication systems in the respective AOR and also advised on the timely adaptations and improvements required in the field, with Div Signal Officers and all other Officers.
Afterwards, Major General Nilantha Hettiarachchi addressed the troops and urged them to be determined to perform the assigned duties with dedication and to improve their professionalism through constant training as Signalers of this proud organization. Further, he insisted the need of preserving the image of the Army through maintenance of highest standards of discipline at all levels.
Later on, the Chief Signal Officer joined with an all rank tea and shared a cup of tea with All Ranks of the 2 (V) SLSC. Then he left complementary remarks on the Visitors' Book to culminate the proceedings of the visit.
