To ensure adequate facilities and care for the children, the construction of a new auditorium for Viru Kekulu Preschool – Minneriya was started on 09 February 2017 based on a concept of Mrs. Nayana De Silva, Hon President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit.Maj Gen Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc Commander, Security Forces (East) laid the foundation stone on the invitation of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit at an auspicious time amidst religious blessings.

Troops under the Security Force Headquarters East, giving prominence to community projects, constructed yet another house for a widow at No 73, Nagasthenna, Nawamahasenpura, Welikanda. \r\n\r\nTroops of 3 Mechanized Infantry Regiment initiated this meritorious deed of constructing a house for Mrs. D M Kumarihami, a widow who was living with her young daughter in an unsafe and decayed house for a long time.

One of the most prominent scholars in Sri Lanka, former Ambassador to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, Emeritus Professor of Sinhala, Desamanya J. B. Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (East) visited the battalions under command to 24 Division in Ampara district on 15th and 16th February 2017.\r\nOn arrival at the HQ 23rd Bn of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 15 February 2017, the Comd, SF (E) was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer and honoured with a Guard Turnout in accordance with military formalities at the main entrance.

\r\nThe Polonnaruwa Branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society conducted a two day First Aid awareness program at SF HQ (E) on 18 – 19 February 2017.

Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (East) visited 7 MIC located at Kantale on Monday, 20 February 2017.\r\nOn arrival, the visiting Comd SF (E) was accorded with a formal Guard Turnout at the entrance of Bn HQ and thereafter he was warmly welcomed by Lt Col PP Priyalal MIC, the Commanding Officer.\r\nDuring the visit, the Comd SF (E) planted a Jack sapling to mark his visit to 7 MIC followed by a troops address and all ranks lunch.

The 2nd Sri Lanka Signal (Vol) Regiment celebrated its 36th Anniversary on 25 April 2016. This 36th Anniversary celebration was organized with several customary and special events starting from Bodhi Pooja on 21 April 2016. In This occassion series of events were conducted under the leadership of 7th Commanding Officer, Lt Col GLSW Liyanage USP psc with contribution of all Officers & ORs of the Regiment

With the motive of assisting the religious places of the AOR the tps of 6 GR, 17 (V) SLLI and 18 SLNG under 233 Bde conducted a ‘Shramadana’ campaign at Sri Bodhirajaramaya Temple, Kadawthmaduwa on 16 May 2016 .03 x 85 tps along with 40 x civilians of the area participated for the event with the direction of GOC 23 Div Maj Gen DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc.\r\n

With the direction of Commander Security Forces East Maj Gen KMU Wijeratne USP ndu, the Basic Computer Course No 01 - 2016 was commenced on 25th Apr 2016 at Security Forces Headquarters (East) Welikanda in association with Orient Academy Limited, for 02 Officers and 38 Other Ranks deployed in Security Forces East AOR and all students were qualified. The course concluded on 19th May 2016 and the closing address was conducted by Colonel W T W G Ihalage RWP RSP psc, Colonel General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters (East).

SFHQ (E) organized a series of Vesak events starting with Bodhi Pooja and Vesak Zone at Welikanda town.Bodhi Pooja, Belimal Dansala and Bhakthi Geetha programs were organized on 21 May 2016 while exhibition of Vesak lanterns were done from 21 May 2016 to 23 May 2016. Bakthi Geetha program conducted at walikanda town added glamour to Vesak zone. Army men and women solider with Suwarnaopali Dahampasala at sewanapitiya jointly presented the Bakthi Geetyha program.
