To coincide with the 69th Army Day & Anniversary, the troops of 231 Brigade launched a Blood Donation Campaign at the Headquarters, 231 Brigade Kallady, Batticaloa today (10), under the guidance and supervision of the Commander 231 Brigade, Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella who endorsed this project considering its importance in life saving.
During this event which was carried out with the coordination of Teaching Hospital Batticaloa, 5 Officers and 117 Other Ranks from the Headquarters 231 Brigade, 4 Gemunu Watch, 10 Gajaba Regiment and 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment voluntarily donated their blood for the use of patients in Batticaloa and suburbs. Depicting the relationship between the ethnic groups in this area & the Army, 26 Tamil civilians joined the troops for this worthy cause.
The Lions Club Batticaloa and a professional medical team of the teaching Hospital Batticaloa assisted the project by providing nurses, medical staff and refreshments. The members of the Lions Club and the doctors thanked the Army for this timely gesture.
