Major General DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc assumed duties on 01 November 2016 as the 14th Commander of the Security Forces (East) in keeping with the traditions in the Army at the Headquarters at Welikanda.The day’s proceedings scheduled in connection with the commencement of the Office as the Commander began on his arrival to the venue.

Commander SF(East) Maj Gen DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, laid the foundation stone for two story Vishrama Shala building of Mailankarachchi Sri Mahindaramaya temple at auspicious time on 12 November 2016 amidst religious blessings. Brig N Hathurusingha psc, Col S T Priyadarshana RWP RSP USP Comd 233 Bde (overlooking), Mr Kamal Harischandra and Mr S A Somarathna joined hands with Commander SF (East) on this occasion.

On a request made by the Chief Incumbent of Agrabodhi Viharaya Kantale, Ven. Agbopura Gnanawimala Thero, the Chairman of World Young Buddhist Association Ven. Bikkuni Shin Kuan and her delegation brought a Buddha Relic to Kantale on 13 Nov 2016 bestowing a valuable opportunity for the devotees to worship and perform their religious observances. Subsequently, The Relic will be placed in a Dagoba which is being constructed in Agrabodhi temple at Kantale.\r\n\r\nComd Security Forces (East) Maj Gen DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Commander Security Forces (East) Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc visited the Headquarters of 22 Division and under command formations on 15 and 16 November 2016. A. series of events held in connection with the SF Comd\'s visit and formalities commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turnout accorded to the SF Comd\'s on arrival to the venue and GOC 22 Div warmly welcomed him in accordance with military customs.

With the guidance of Chief Incumbent Rev Katugasthota Mahindalankara thero, the annual “Katina Pinkama” of the Mailankarachchi temple was successfully conducted on 12 & 13 November 2016 under the patronage of all officers and other ranks of 233 Brigade and its under Comd Bns. The annual “Katina Pinkama” commenced with a Bodhi Pooja followed by a Colourful Perahara, Pirith Sajjayana, Consecration of Katina Cheevara and concluded with Alms Giving to Maha Sanga.

Major General HWSDB Pananwala RSP ndu assumed duties at the General officer Commanding of the 23 Division on 03 November 2016 at Punani. He succeeded Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc who took over duties as the Security Forces Commander - East recently. Major General HWSDB Pananwala RSP ndu served as the Director General Staff Duties at the Army Headquarters before appointing as the General officer Commanding of 23 Division.

Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (East) after assumption of duties in his new appointment made his first visit to 23 Division Headquarters, 231, 232 and 233 Brigades on 23 & 24 November 2016. \r\n\r\n2. On arrival at the 23 Division Headquarters, General Officer Commanding Major General HWSDB Pananwala RSP ndu, warmly welcomed the Commander Security Forces (East) and he was accorded with a guard turnout in accordance with military formalities.

Comd SF (E) paid a courtesy call on Vice Chancellor – Eastern University, Vandaramulla Prof T Jayasingham on 24 November 2016 along with the GOC 23 Div and Comd 231 Bde.\r\nDuring the meeting with the vice chancellor Comd, SF(E) discussed matters related to smooth functioning of the university and their difficulties prof T Jayasingham was highly impressed to meet the Senior Army Officers in the area and thanked the SF Comd about the concern.\r\n

On an invitation of the Chief Incumbent of Jayabodhi Viharaya, Jayanthipura, Kantale, Ven Nawagamuwe Gnanawisuddhi Thero, the Comd SF (E) declared open a newly constructed Shrine Room of the temple and unveiled the new Buddha Statue at an auspicious time on 25 November 2016 amidst large gathering of Buddhist devotees.\r\n\r\nConsequent, to the opening ceremony, Comd SF (E) participated a small ceremony attended by members of Maha Sanga and devotees headed by Ven Kuruwita Gnanananda Thero the Chief Incumbent of North and Eastern Provinces.\r\n\r\nDuring the ceremony, the members of the Maha San
