His Excellency the President declared open a Pilgrims Rest for devotees at Aranthalawa temple - Ampara.

\r\nA series of programmes were held on June 08, 09 and 10 in Polonnaruwa under the patronage of His Excellency the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr Maithripala Sirisena to mark the Poson Poya day, in view of invoking blessings on people affected by floods and landslides, as well as the general public and the country.\r\nThe Poson “Maha Bath Dansala” organized by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army was held on June 08 and 09 in Polonnaruwa for the 57th consecutive year and HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, C

SF HQ (E) celebrates Poson Poya Day, marking the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd Century BC by Arahat Mihindu which made Sri Lanka the stronghold of Theravada Buddhism.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva inaugurated the exposition of sacred relics of the Lord Buddha and his two disciples, Arahath Sariputta and Arahath Moggallana Theros at Ampara Buddangala Aaranya Senasanaya.

The newly renovated air conditioned NCO’s Club, OR’s Mess and the newly constructed bakery equipped with modern facilities were declared open by Major General L M Mudalige RWP RSP ndu GOC 24 Div on 10 Jun 17 fulfilling a long felt requirement of the Headquarters 24 Division. In addition to the renovation, the surrounding had been landscaped preserving the natural beauty of the premises. \r\nAn All Ranks Lunch and a Get-together of NCO’s Club concluded the day’s proceedings.

On the directions of Commander of the Army, 23 Division organized an empowerment programme with the auspices of “Maha Karuna Buddhist Society - Singapore” on 10 June 2017 at Laya Waves Hotel - Kalkudah. Maha Karuna Buddhist Society (Singapore and Malaysia) involved in this virtuous event during a visit to Sri Lanka along with Ven. (Dr) K Gunarathana Thero. \r\n\r\n School items, stationeries and maternity substances were distributed among 225 students and pregnant mothers of the 23 Division area.

Security Force Headquarters (East) conducted a series of activities on\r\naccount of celebrating its 13th anniversary in grand scale commencing from 25 to 28 Oct 2016. Religious observances at Somawathiya Raja Maha Viharaya and Mahasen Dewalaya, Minneriya were conducted with the view of bestowing merits on fallen War Heros who sacrificed their lives for motherland. Further, a ‘Belimal and ‘Kiribath Dansela’ were organized illustrating Buddhists’ unique practice of ‘Dhana’ which is considered as the ultimate act of merit.

Major General K M U Wijeratne USP ndu Commander Security Force (East) with an illustrious military career spanning 35 years, relinquished the office of the Eastern Command on 31 October 2016 completing his military career at Sri Lanka Army.\r\nA series of formalities held at Headquarters, in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with the reviewing of the Guard Turnout accorded to the outgoing Commander on arrival to the venue.

The Commander Security Force (East) Major General DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc addressed the troops of SFHQ (E) along with the COs and men of affiliated Bns, on 06 October 2016, subsequent to assuming duties. During his inaugural address, he emphasized the value of creating a conducive environment at work place in order to perform duties effectively without unnecessary pressure. The day’s events culminated with an all ranks tea at ORs mess.

Commander Security Forces (East) Major General DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc visited the headquters of 24 Division,under command Brigades and Battalions 07 and 08 November 2016. During the visit the Comd SF (E) addressed the troops and obtained briefing from the Formation Commanders on the present situation.Thereafter Major General DDUK Hettiarachchi RSP USP ndu psc had several discussions with the Bde Comds and Bn Comds mainly on the operational/administrative/welfare and the basic requirements of the troops.
