A training course for Company Commanders commenced on 12 November 2016 at the SFHQ (East) and concluded on Monday 28 November 2016 with the participation of 23 Officers serving in Eastern Theater.\r\n\r\nThe aim of this course is to enhance the basic knowledge on Staff Duties and understanding of Company Commanders, roles and tasks in the field.\r\n\r\nThe training course was organized on the directions of the Commander Security Forces East Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc .

After assumption of duties in the office, the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, paid homage to Ven. Buddhangala Ananda Thero at Buddhangala Aranya Senasanaya - Ampara on 07 December 2016. The Ven Thero preached how effectively the inter-religious coexistence and communal harmony could be succeeded through Buddhist doctrine in the post war situation. Ven Thero after imparting his wise counsel, ushered his blessings on the Comd SF (E). GOC 24 Div also attended the occasion.

Education is not the preparation of life, but the life itself. With this objective , Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RWP USP ndu psc, Comd SF (E) organized another book donation along with few colleagues of 82’ Batch, Ananda College – Colombo following the motto of his concept “HELP EVER HURT NEVER”.\r\n130 x packs of books were distributed among needy students from low income families of Sri Uttarananda Daham Pasala, at Track – 5 in Aralaganvila, Dimbulagala on 11 December 2016.

An awareness programme on HIV and AIDS was conducted at the Security Force Headquarters (East) on 14 December 2016 to mark the World AIDS day. The programme was conducted by Dr. Indra Shamali Peiris and she emphasized the importance of such awareness in the community not only for prevention and but also for the well being of HIV positive persons The programme covered the nature of HIV and AIDS, how the virus spreads how it can be prevented or managed, discriminations faced by HIV positive persons and a question and a answer session.

Task Force – 3 was re designated as 24 Division on 27 November 2013 and HQ 24 Division celebrated its third anniversary on 27 Nov 2016 with several events under the guidance of GOC 24 Div Brig LM Mudalige RWP RSP ndu.\r\n\r\nA Guard turn out and Guard of Honour accorded to the GOC on the anniversary day followed by all ranks lunch at the ORs’ mess of HQ 24 Div.\r\n Coincide with anniversary celebrations following events were conducted by HQ 24 Div.\r\n\r\na. 1. The Commander Security Forces (East), Major General D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, visited 6 (V) SLAGSC deployed in Kandakadu area on 19 December 2016 after assuming duties as new Commander, SF (E). \r\n\r\n2. On arrival at the 6 (V) SLAGSC Headquarters, the Commander Security Forces (East) was welcomed by Major MKSS de Silva (CO - 6 (V) SLAGSC) and he was accorded with a guard turnout in accordance with military formalities.

Dry ration packs and stationeries for students were distributed among families engaged in fishing industry at Wellawadi, Pasikuda in Valachchena and Susirigama village in Welikanda area on 16 December 2016. The donation was sponsored by veteran musician Mrs Sujatha Attanayaka and a group of their relatives and friends. Approximately Rs 2500.00 worth of a ration pack was distributed to 100 families. Further approximately Rs 750.00 worth of school item pack was also distributed to 65 students.

\r\n1. Major General D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (East) made his inaugural visit to FMA (E) Headquarters, 3 ESR and 5 SLAMC on 08 December 2016. \r\n\r\n2. On arrival at the FMA (E) Headquarters, Comd FMA (E) Major General M Mudannayaka RSP USP welcomed the Comd SF (E) and he was accorded with a guard turnout in accordance with military formalities. A sapling of a Mango tree was planted to mark the day and later he addressed the troops serving under FMA (E).

\r\n A cashew plants distribution programme was conducted by HQ 233 Bde at the office of Divisional Secretary - Vakarai on 20 December 2016. The plants were sponsored by Dilmah Conservation and 1500 saplings were distributed among 30 families during the event. The programme was coordinated by Col S J Priyadarshana RWP RSP USP – Comd 233 Bde (Over looking). Four officers and 15 x military personnel from 233 Bde and 50 villagers participated the event.\r\n

1. Mr. Nalaka Hewamadduma, an Eminent Educator, Speaker, Trainer, Consultant and a Writer in Peak Performance, Mind Body Wellness, Family Enrichment, Character Building and Personal Effectiveness, conducted two workshops at Security Force Headquarters East on 23 and 24 December 2016.\r\n\r\n2. The first workshop was conducted for the Officers and the second was conducted for the SNCOs and NCOs of under command Divisions, Brigades and Battalions of SF (E) AOR. \r\n\r\n3. Both workshops were very educative, interesting and thought provoking.
