Hundreds of school students at Utthuchenai Tamil Mixed School in Batticaloa, adjacent to Welikanda border became twice fortunate as one of their long-felt basic requirements, saw its fruition on Friday (5), consequent upon a personal initiative, taken by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva who was sensitive to a recent Media report over non-availability of drinking water to students.

Brigadier UAT Hennedige RSP and Colonel ASP Podiralahamie USP assumed duties as BGS and BAQ of SF HQ (East) on auspicious time after observing religious rituals respectively on 08 and 09 August 2016.

The Buddhist Channel organized a day programme named Solosmasthana Wandana Maha Punyothsawaya at ancient Gal Vihara premises on 06 August 2016 with the patronage of Venerable Vendaruwe Upali Thero Deputy Chief Incumbent of Asgiriya Chapter. Thousands of devotees observed Sil during the day and various other programmes related to the event were conducted.\r\nLunch was provided by a businessman in Polonnaruwa and troops of Forward Maintenance Area (East) contributed in preparing and distributing meals among 10,000 devotees who observed Sil.

Newly constructed Officers accommodation block consists of three fully furnished rooms was declared open by Maj Gen KMU Wijeratne USP ndu, Comd SF (East) on an auspicious time on 18 Aug 2016.\r\nThis building named WHITE HOUSE and it was one among the series of construction works are being carried out for inspiring of accommodation and other basic facilities of Officers and ORs of SF HQ (East).\r\nDuring the opening ceremony Comd SF (East) appreciated the contribution made by members of SFHQ (E) including ESR who worked round the clock to complete the project within four months.\r\n

Kandallady Badrakali Amman Kovil, ancient Hindu temple conducted its annual grandeur festival for about a week at kovil premises, which flocked thousands of devotees. rn The devotees participated in kovil festival were provided lunch and drinking water by 233 Brigade under the direction of Colonel JMC Jayaweera psc Commander 233 Brigade on 17 August 2016. All ranks of 233 Brigade were blessed according to the Hindu rituals. rn

A twenty four member of delegation headed by Major General Hamidur Rahman Chaowdhry rcds psc of National Defence College Bangladesh visited Security Force Headquarters (East) on 19 August 2016 as a part of their training schedule. Major General KMU Wijeratne USP ndu, Commander, Security Force (East) welcomed the delegation and presented a briefing on present security situation and role and tasks of the Security Forces (East). Plaques and Mementoes were exchanged in order to mark the visit followed by a tea at Officers\' Mess SF HQ (East).\r\n\r\n

Security Force Headquarters (East) organized a workshop on ‘Art of Living’ with collaboration of the Art of Living Foundation of Sri Lanka, at SF HQ (East) premises from 21-25 Aug 2016 with the intention of enhancing the self-confidence among troops to take any challenge meet in day-to-day life.

An enthralling audiovisual extravaganza “NEGENAHIRA VIRU THARU REYAK” was staged at \"Prathibha Hall\" Manampitiya on 30 Aug 16.\r\n\r\nThe show was conceptualized as means of creating a platform for the men and women serving in SFHQ(E) AOR to pageant the hidden artistic talents to their NOKs and to share with the contemporaries.\r\n\r\nThis magnificent variety show was totally a conception of Comd SFHQ(East) Maj Gen KMU Wijeratne USP ndu and the team of soldier stars were selected among the troops serving under command to SFHQ(E).

An exhibition of books written by the great author Mr Martin Wickramasinghe was held at HQ 23 Division premises at Punani on 27th and 28th August 2016. This exhibition was organized by the HQ 23 Division in collaboration with Martin Wickramasinghe Foundation.

Dewa Mandira building of Kandallady Sri Bhadrakali Amman Kovil has been renovated by 233 Bde tps under the supervision of Bde Comd with the financial assistance of Mr. Chaminda, the Principal of Gurukula Maha Vidyalaya - Polonnaruwa . It was declared open by Col JMC Jayaweera psc - Comd 233 Bde at 1030 hrs on 03 September 2016. 50 coconut plants were distributed among the villages at the same occasion.\r\n \r\n10 x 50 Army personnel and 250 civilians participated in this programme.
